A letter from July 20th, 2016

Dear Future Sara. We have been dating for over 9 months, and this letter should be there in 9 years. So, it is very strange to think about who you must be after 9 years. It´s a lot of time. You graduated this year and you got this horrible job at Cairoscene working as a copy writer and as a journalist and you were so frustrated about it. Sherin and me were always telling you to quit and you were so Stubborn, but well, afterwards you went to Jordan, and right now, I mean in the past, you are still in Jordan. 2016 has been very bloody so far, bombs, coup d'Etat in Turkey, Venezuela is starving, a truck ****** 86 people in France, a bomb in Baghdad ****** like 200 people. Syrian refugees, Islamophobia rising. I do hope the world is in better shape now, i don´t think it will, but I hope so. I miss you a lot. If the future has happened according to my expectations you must be married with the future me, and we must be living probably in Canada or in Iceland or in the Philippines, I have no idea, most probably you both hold PHDs, and everything went right. Luis must have published something else, you must hold an important job at a magazine or a news paper. I do hope you don´t have children, and instead you are travelling around the world from time to time, even doing bicycle trips. If the things were completely off this path, maybe you are not together anymore, or something extraordinary happened. Well life changes, I just hope that you are free and independent,and have a good job, that your parents are not controlling you, and that you are really happy. I was 27 when I sent this letter, you must be 32 now, so way older than me, hehe. Anyway, a few moments ago I told my parents I wanted to marry you, and they were so surprised, because they thought I was the kind of guy who was never going to have this kind of life. I told them I may have to convert to islam, it would be quite surprising if the Luis of the future is an actual muslim. Right now you are a bit confused about your future, you don´t know what to choose for your master´s and that is fine, probably you chose something related to archaeology or Journalism, I wonder if you guys managed to live in Europe, and live together without the pressure of your family. I also wonder if you have the Colombian nationality. Have you written any major work of journalism? I do hope so. Maybe you were awarded with something. Well, I love you, I do think you are the mother of my cats, and I hope that we live in one country and then another until we visit every single country in the world. I also expect us to have been to orgies, hehe, or at least threesomes. Keep up with good stuff, enjoy life as much as possible, because well, we are going to die anyway, so hedonism is the only thing that makes sense.
