A letter from before you felt free

Time Travelled — almost 3 years

Peaceful right?

j. do you go by jamie now? or is it still jen. either way. by the time this letter finds you, you’ll have graduated; a mental health nurse, ready to help people who felt like you did. while you were on placements, did you feel like you’d changed lives? helped people? i hope so. that’s what i want to achieve with my career. if i can sleep at the end of the day knowing i’ve helped someone get their life back on track, or even just make it another day, i’ll sleep well. is your home anything like my pinterest board? by this time you should be living in a flat, and i hope it has beautiful big south facing windows like you always wanted. i wonder if you still even have plants. it seems hard to imagine that you wouldn’t, after five years of filling your bedroom with hundreds. i wonder if you still have your huge golden pothos? or if your marble queen has got metre long vines? i hope they’ve all grown with you. your plants can make anywhere feel like home. i hope you found your people. i don’t know if the found family trope is real or achievable, but i hope you achieve it. i want your life to be full of love, joy, patience, laughter, community, communication, trust, comfort, warmth and hugs. and while i know you’re doing better than ever, and might not remember me in this time period, i hope you’re proud of me and all the versions that came before and held on. all those times we were so close to giving up, we held on for you to be able to get to where you are. please be proud of us. please listen to your inner child. help us heal. we’ll all be happier for it. i’m excited for our future. i’m proud of you already, keep doing good in the world. i love you. jen.
