A letter from Jan 18th, 2022

Dear FutureMe,How are you? Really? Truthfully, not the act you put up for your friends and family. How is 18 treating me? I hope to go to college at UT Austin, and major in social work. I hope to not become a police officer, please fix that if you do. I fear letting down others. I fear to show my real self, scared of what others will think of me. I fear leaving the quiet nice girl act. The act that only one can see threw, me. I hope you reached the goal of getting your driver's license, and hopefully a car. I don't like how I look. I don’t like my body. I don't like how I use people for attention, and once I feel like I’m not good enough, I leave. I am proud of my grade, all A’s, and am aiming for at least above a 3.5 gpa. I think about if my personality/ the way I act will either hurt or help in the long run. I am a 15 year, freshman, over-achieving girl, secretly looking for a way to hide my feelings. I am sharing a room with my sister Milca, upstairs. My room is white, and doesn't have many decorations, but we are going to decorate it soon. When you first walk in you see my dresser and my bed on one side and see my sisters on the other, and the closet behind it. There is a tv in between our beds, and we plan to add more posters etc. I live in a house with my mom,dad, sisters, and brother. There is a basketball court, and a pool across our house. And we live near the end of the road, but there is a big tree covering our home. Our house is small, two stories, 5 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms. I have a cat named milo. I currently go to Lakeview high school. Are you still there? I love going to the lake, book store, and coffee shop. I am Eritrean, orthodox Christian, my favorite book is the secret life of Addie la rue, I love sza and frank ocean, my favorite movie is home alone, and my favorite show of all time is Gilmore girls. My hobbies are baking, reading, and sleeping. To be honest, I don't really do any extracurricular activities or play any sports but I need to fix and get that done by the next time Future me is reading this. Hopefully. I am in the student council, and I hope to join DECA next year. I want to join more clubs, volunteer hours, and etc. When I am alone, I listen to music, talk to myself, or lay down and think about scenarios in my head lol. I’m probably doing tik tok or talking to milo. When I am with my friends, we usually just chill at their house (especially rediet’s), firewheel, or ihop/dinner. My favorite snacks are chips, skittles or sour patch, fried okra, pizza, lasagna, wings, or chicken sandwiches. During the weekend, I am usually catching up on work or just watching netflix/hulu and tiktok. I honestly need to get my **** together, and do something cus rn I’m not looking too hot. The people in my life are the reason I am who I am. Ik basic. Boo corny, tomatoes tomatoes, I'm throwing tomatoes, but it's true. I live with my mom, dad, sister milca and betty, and brother aebel. I love Milca and Aebel and they are truly good siblegs. Is the bond you have with Milca the same? I hope so, cause you need her and she needs you. Stay together, and show her how much you appreciate her. I love the people in my Eritrean community, and I see all of them as my aunt’s and uncle’s. My best friends are Rediet, Amie, and Sophia. I have other friends, not many, but they are the only ones who truly know me, and who I truly care about. I often feel left out or misplaced with other people, and I am quiet or awkward as most people say. But only one person has never made me feel like that, Rediet. Meeting her 6th grade math class was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I truly don't know what I would do without her. Is she still your best friend? If not, go fix that **** rn. Deadass. She has always been and is always by my side, and spending time with her at her house or sleepover or really anything is the best time ever. When you read this later, go tell her you love her. You better still be hanging out with her after yall graduate, and until you get old. Rediet Alehubel, you are my best friend, and I love you. My go tell your favorite teacher, Mr. Navarro and Mrs.Kaylor goodbye. We are currently trying to get over your “ex”, Evan lol. Have you got over him? Have yall ever talked? I hope we are friends by the next time you are reading this LMAO. But he really aint ****, and do not cry over him. I don't really like anyone rn. Do you have a boyfriend by now? Have you had your first kiss? Are you a virgin? The most important people in my life are my family, bestfriends, and most important myself. Are they still in your life now? I was born in Garland, Texas, and lived there my whole life. Do you still live there? Growing up we always played with aebel until he got older, and then it was just milca and me. We played dress up, bakery, and all the games you can think of. Remember when we broke our arm when we were 5, or in 4th grade when we fractured our toe and had to wear a boot for 2 months. We attended Montclair elementary, Brandenburg middle school, and are currently at lc. Where are you going to college? Going to Biztown with red, and other school events are really important to me. My favorite past teachers are Mrs.Grumbine, Mrs. Howard, and Mrs.Mansur. I hope I can move on with the past, and work hard to do better in the future. Have you grown from the past, and your mistakes? I hope my future as a senior is successful. I hope you are graduating at the top 10% of your class, and graduating with an associate of art in criminal justice. I hope you have many cords, and have joined many academic clubs. What is your major? Have you found a roommate for your dorm? I hope I will be able to major in social work, and attend undergrad school and work my way up from there to become one. I plan on working out more, doing yoga, and focusing on my mental health. Have you done that? How is that working out for you as of now? I plan on traveling to Canada by senior year. Have you traveled there yet? I don't want to get married as of now, but maybe later. I hope you find a good paying job, and an overall success career that you are happy in. Did you find a job that makes you happy? I hope we can look back at this letter and laugh, but also be proud of who we are and who we are going to be.
