Dear FutureMe,
To my future self,
The world of the present day has been a circus of emotions, weirdness, and awe. I consider myself to be a realist, not an optimist. However, I have hope that in the coming year, the lives of everyone in this world will revert to the normality prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ve expressed frustration at the lack of condemnation and action taken against a multitude of events across the globe. I don’t so much as have intentions, however, I intend to resolve conflict peacefully wherever the opportunity may arise. Although, I view that as unlikely given how lost people are in their ideologies. That, above all, is my biggest concern.
In the present, it’s difficult for me to truly feel at home. People say that “home is where the heart is”, but I don’t buy it. Perhaps it’s my own actions or maybe I’m just naturally unlucky but as of now, I don’t know where I feel at home. I suppose the closest thing to ‘home’ for me are my trustworthy friends as I know that when the world is ending, they are who I can count on. If there’s anything I know for sure, it’s that they’re family.
I don’t tend to do much in my spare time. I’m an avid gamer, almost exclusively playing ‘Call of Duty’ as that game has essentially raised me. I enjoy discussing current events with those willing to do so civilly. If I’m not gaming, I’m probably watching YouTube, my favourite creators being VanossGaming, I AM WILDCAT, Terroriser, NoahJ456, BasicallyIDoWrk, fourzer0seven, AlternateHistoryHub, or Inkslasher. If I’m neither gaming or watching YouTube, I’m almost guaranteeably listening to music. The artists I listen to the most are Granger Smith, High Valley, Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett, Luke Combs, Blake Shelton, Sabaton, Skillet, Cole Swindell, and Jordan Davis.
I feel that I have been impacted by a fair number of people. I’m inspired by influential figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Ronald Reagan, Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and John F. Kennedy. Using their combined skillset; MLK’s advocacy, TR’s determination, Abe’s wisdom, JFK’s confidence, Washington’s loyalty and Reagan’s leadership, I strive to become the greatest version of myself. Coupling them with how I’ve been shaped by those I’ve met during my lifetime, I believe that it’s a likelihood that I will become the greatest version of myself. Above all else, I look up to God, and the Lord; Jesus Christ.
Even with all of this covered, I can only speculate where I’ll be in the future. So, future Garrett, I hope you managed to overcome the doubts and obstacles that I, in the present, could not. I pray that you accomplished my goal of learning the Polish language, as well as discovering your true ancestry. I hope that you found your significant other and I hope that you found her without as much a struggle as I. To be fair, I’m still young. Maybe, just maybe, you will have been blessed so that you may see Boston, D.C., Las Vegas, London, Paris, Moscow, Munich, Warsaw, Krakow, Zurich, Berlin, and Norway. I hope that you maintain faith in God. Finally, I hope you finish the search for dreams of which I started.
-Sincerely, your 2020 self, Garrett Jones
