Dear FutureMe,
So, today was supposed to be our graduation date. Obviously we're not in Boston because of miss rona, and instead, we're at home with the family. I hope BC ended up doing an in-person graduation and we got to celebrate with all our best friends and have the real ceremony and graduation weekend that we deserved.
When you read this you'll be 26. That's really ****** old dude. I just wish that you're living in a city that you love, hopefully now either alone or with a really close friend. Or, honestly, even better, living with an s/o. I wonder how many people you've dated by now, how many more heartbreaks you've experienced. I hope you had good people around you to get through them, cuz we know how hard the first one was senior fall. Honestly, I'm gonna hope that you mended things with her, that you were able to find a way to be friends again or at least friendly. I would hate for the last time we ever talked to have been when we broke up. Even if not, I hope that you've fallen in love many more times, and had it last even longer, and had new experiences to share with new lovers. I wonder how things ended with him because I literally have no idea how things are going to turn out there. Again, I hope it's friendly. I always wanted to be the kind of person to be friends with their exes, so maybe in 5 years, you will be.
By now, you've probably had at least 2 jobs. I hope you're learning things and enjoying work experiences. I hope you've been able to travel like we always wanted to, and even get into the music industry. Regardless of what you're doing now, I hope it's something you love. Because we were always taught to work for what we really wanted, and not to settle for anything less. And if you're having the quarter-life crisis, think about the values you hold deeply and what you want your role in supporting the world to be. We're going to make a difference in the world.
I have no idea what life is going to look like for us in 5 years. Life is so uncertain right now and kind of scary. It seems impossible to think about the future where things are probably better planned out, where you can actually have a path and a real sense of direction. But you're living that future right now. Super weird to think about.
Wherever you are, I hope you are surrounded by people you love. I hope you've stayed friends with our forever friends. I hope we have reunions and it's just like we're back in college only we're old and have jobs and people are even married and have kids (cuz obvi mg and will are going to have a baby in 5 years). I hope you love yourself fully and have been kind with the decisions you've made, even if they don't exactly take you where you thought they would.
To take a little snapshot of who We Are at 21: I found this website from TikTok and I'm still spending hours a day scrolling through this app during quarantine. It's what got me through the worst of my times last semester. I am also loving animal crossing pocket camp and find joy in having goals for this game. My favorite drinks have been Angry Orchard, Mike's Hards, red wine, and margaritas. I'm currently snacking on some cheezits while I write this. My top songs at the moment are: any song by Brockhampton, Josslyn by Olivia O'Brien, Yo Perreo Sola by Bad Bunny, and pretty much anything by Doja Cat or Megan Thee Stallion. Oh, also Your Love by Glass Animals. And then obviously everything that's trending on TikTok. Can't get enough of it!
I wonder what your favorites are right now. Are you reading more than I am? Are you liking working life? Are you worried about being a little over halfway to 30? How's the family? Are you still in therapy? Do you smoke again? What's your fashion sense like now? Who do you listen to? Who inspires you? Do you feel like an adult or are you faking it? Are you in love? What amazing people have you met and what adventures have you gone on? What does post covid world look like?
It's going to be a long time until we meet. I love you so much, and I can't wait to know what version of us you're going to be.
