A letter from May 12th, 2020

Dear FutureMe, how are you? You saw this on a tiktok and thought it would be a good idea, especially since you literally just posted on your finsta that you wish you could fast forward to the future because life is kinda ****. You’re a little over a week out of surgery, it’s going ok. You actually have a follow up tomorrow morning for it. By November you should be back to wrestling. Did you ever fully recover by then though? It seems super impossible and feels like it’ll never happen. Did you make it to state too? And I hope you got down to the 148 class even though your relationship with food is the worst but you lost almost 30lbs before you tore your ACL and everything happened so you can do it again right? Right now Dez is in some deep **** for getting caught for taking acid with Noah the other night and isn’t able to talk to you. Did you guys work it out? Did you break up because you couldn’t see each other and most importantly were you ever able to hang out with him again given that you did technically encourage it and his mom saw the texts? One more thing about it, did she make you guys break up?? As I’m writing this, he’s the only thing on my mind which hopefully when I read this I can laugh. When you read this, you’ll be 22, please tell me you’re on your own and please tell me you don’t have kids yet. I mean if you do that’s great, I wonder what their names are but I just know I would want to live out my 20’s, at least till my mid 20’s. Speaking of growing up, did you get the scholarship for wrestling? Are you a registered nurse? Did you move out of the area or even to a new state? Let’s talk about love life. Yes you’re with Dez right now but how long did that last? He’s your high school boyfriend and there’s a slim chance that you’ll stay together out of high school, I mean if you are still with him even till now, that’s so cute. He’s truly an amazing guy and he’s changed a lot since you’ve become his girlfriend but he also has a lot of maturing to do. But if you aren’t, how did you break up and who made it official that you were no longer together? Are you with someone now or are you a single bad *****??? Those are all the things I can think of at the moment, hopefully you don’t forget the password to this email because I know I would enjoy reading this and laughing at some of the things I’m thinking about now. Between here and now though, promise to take care of yourself, body and mind. You’re kinda in a bad place and it starts with learning to love yourself. Please be in a better place and live out your teen years. Remember people come and go and as long as you aren’t physically hurt, you’ll be ok in the end. -16yr old you
