Dear Future Me:
I had a wonderful day today. I met with my English class over Google Hangout for the first time and it felt amazing to talk to people. During the meeting, I laughed the most I have during quarantine. It felt great to be doing things that I used to do before the quarantine. After Schoon left the group, a couple of us stayed on and talked for thirty minutes. Some of us barely talked to each other at school, but it just felt so great to talk to them, no matter who they were.
Last week wasn’t as good. My surgery for my ACL was canceled due to coronavirus. I cried when texting my coaches because I realized I won’t be able to play sports my entire junior year. Then I thought about the fact that I don’t know when this is going to end and that there is a chance that I won’t have surgery till next year, which means that I won’t be able to play sports my senior year either. I knew that coronavirus would ruin the end of sophomore year, but I didn’t think it could destroy parts of my junior year and senior year.
I have been doing great at keeping busy though. I didn’t know how schooling would continue or if it would continue so I started to use Khan Academy on my own. I practiced for the SAT since I have to take it next year. Hopefully, I get to take it next year.
I have also started to play on my Nintendo Switch a lot more. I have beat Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze twice and Super Mario Bros once. Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze was definitely more fun than Super Mario Bros since I have already beaten Super Mario Bros before. Before going upstairs to go to sleep, I watch my brother play games. He rages so hard when he dies in games and it is hilarious.
I really do wonder when all of this is going to end and when my family will stop putting the news on to see the ***** toll. I really hope I get to play sports and go to prom and have a graduation. I really hope that everything goes back to normal soon. Most of all, I hope that when I’m reading this letter in five years that I’m thriving in college. I hope that everything will be back to normal and that I will be living it up as a college student. I hope I’m studying to be successful and hanging out with friends that I love. I hope that I get to experience the college life that college students are missing out on now.
Wishing for the Best,
15-year-old Me
