A letter from April 8th, 2020

Dear FutureMe, So right now I'm sitting on my bed in lock down due to coronavirus. I bet you're having a laugh right now thinking "oh YEAHHH, I remember that time". It's currently Wednesday 8th April and the whole world is at a stand still. Boris also happens to be in ICU because of this virus, it really is no joke. Nevertheless, life goes on. I've been studying hard for my a-levels and they've been cancelled! Yes, I'm annoyed but hopefully the grades I get are a true reflection of my efforts. Seriously, a-levels completely mess up your mental health, it's crazy!! Okay, so my situation is that I don't know what I'm going to be doing next year because everything has completely stopped. Usually at this stage I should have some sense of direction in terms of uni etc etc. I really want to pursue an apprenticeship in audit or accounting but since everything has been paused I really have no clue what I'll be doing. Let me guess, you're probably laughing because you have reached your destination already. I wonder if you're married, or have you found someone? Have you got kids? Or is that not something you've thought about just yet. What's his name? Has he read this too or are you too embarrassed to share a letter that your 17 year old self wrote? Well, if you haven't, I'll make a promise right now that if you have someone, you must share this with them, I promise. Oh and sorry in advance. Truth is, your probably cringing, wait the word "cringing" is it still in the urban dictionary or is there a new slang language that I don't know of? God knows! I'm fasting right now because its the big nights and I'm really craving Korean fried chicken. OH YES! THAT REMINDS ME, are you still a huge fan of BTS and is your obsession with Korean dramas still there? I'm really **** curious. How's mommy and papa? How are they keeping? Healthy? And what about Ampy and Muyum? Are they married? Are they okay? Have they got kids?? The questions are endless. Nani and Nana? They still around, Id really like to think they are and if they are, give them a kiss, if not it's okay, pray for them. Today you are 23, that's no joke. You are finally in the midst of becoming a full full adult, weird thinking about it, I'm still a big fat baby. I really wonder who has come into your life and who has left at this point. Of course, nothing is certain and sudden events happen, don't cry though. Even if someone close to you has left, make duaa, everything will be okay insha'Allah. To to predict where I'll be. I'm hoping at this point that you've found someone and your life with them is just starting, if not, don't lose hope, and don't worry, it's just that I've always thought of 23 being the age for starting a life with someone. But things aren't always what they seem and anything can happen! I'm guessing your settled with a good job, whether that was through uni or not, I have NO CLUE! I presume you've lost the weight, at least I hope you have since you know full well that it needs to go. If not, DO IT NOW! Before you get old and crusty. What else am I missing? Oh yeah, current trends, there's a thing called tik tok, it's like a mini video app where you make 60 second videos. EVERYONE IS OBSESSED and I'm not gonna lie, I've been making a few and watching a fair bit of them too. Anywhoooo.... I just hope that your happy and healthy. I hope that you are close to God and you've found your feet in whatever your doing in life. If you haven't, and if there's something going on in your life, just pray, raise your hands to God. Talk to someone or find a way to de-stress. Also, look after mommy and papa, they are getting old now. Give them a kiss from me. As for Your sisters, try reading this letter to them and tell them about the day you wrote this. Tell them its one of the nights of forgiveness, Maryam is currently on placement in second year. Aamena, you are working from home, you've just gone to shower after asking me to smell your kaftan to see if it smells like food. As for papa, he's gone to his "hand sanitizing" job at the construction site and Mum, she's sitting downstairs talking to Nani on the phone. Lemme guess, your all laughing or smiling while sumaya reads the letter, WELL HIII, ITS SUMAYA FROM 2020 SPEAKING. I think that concludes everything, there's so much more I want to write but I don't want to make it too long. Yeah that's it really!! I hope your emotions are steady after reading this!
