Dear Future Me,
The date is January 5th, 2024. All the Christmas and New Year's shenanigans are just about done, and the beginning of school is looming ever closer. Battle of the Bands is coming up - I've got the solo down for Numb, but I'm afraid the mic isn't going to work again, or that something makes Edo sound terrible. Although I did my TED talk almost 3 months ago now, it still hasn't gone up - hopefully it has by the time you're (I'm?) reading this. It might have even garnered some attention on the way, even though it's most likely outdated by the time this arrives. Speaking of which, I've just started on trying to revive The Fact Trove - currently at just over 700 subs and 200k views in total, the most successful video having just over 22k views. The plan is to use it to make DJ Showers go viral - it's probably either a definitive success or failure by the time this is sent. I'm working on getting better at producing and trying to build my own brand in the music world - putting out music and social media accounts. My biggest (and only) collab is with someone with almost 1000 monthly listeners on Spotify. By the time this is sent, the whole music producing thing might be over, it might be going really well or it might just stagnate but be fun anyways. I'm also working towards getting into a placement pack with Kxvi, which is also most likely a success or failure by the time this gets to you (me?). I want to write a book - I have an idea, but nothing written down quite yet, but if Christopher Paolini wrote Eragon when he was 14 then I can write a book also. I've just finished reading 1984, and thought it was alright. Starting to read Magician: Apprentice, which I will have finished by the time you read this. I'm struggling with my GSCE choices, of course you have already decided them, but I'm leaning towards Spanish, Music, Drama and Classical Civilization, but again, you already know what I picked. This is all very strange to think about.
Now for the part I always get wrong: where I think I'll be in 1 year.
The date will be January 5th, 2025. I will be 15 years old, in Year 10. The TED talk will be up, I'll have picked my GSCEs and Battle of the Bands 2025 will be coming up, provided I even do it next year. I will have been to the Olympics, been skiing, flown a plane (hopefully) and have gone to Japan.
I predict that I will keep with music production - I will have 5k monthly on Spotify, 5k subs on YouTube and will be a lot better than I am now - in fact, I will cringe hard at the music I made a year ago.
I predict that AI will become even more advanced and powerful than most people think it will in a year - it will essentially replace accountants, AI generated content will be a far larger share of content online than it is today and it will already be starting to creep its way into the tools of creative occupations, such as music and art.
I predict that I will be the same person I am today, but slightly more mature - same friends, same interests, same hobbies, same music taste etc. I will look slightly better, as my braces will be off by next year, but I think that I'll be essentially the same person as the person writing this letter.
Lastly, I hope that this reminds you of the time right now more than the first one I sent, because it didn't cover everything in nearly enough detail. I hope I've done a good job.
- 14-year old you
Epilogue
about 10 hours laterI want to respond to this in case anybody in the future wants to read how my life is going (some people enjoy that), since I have letters scheduled until...
