Dear FutureMe,
In the middle of some masculine, middle-age existential haze (when nothing feels possible), you still believe that all things are possible. You still believe in the power of the written word. You still believe in in salespeople and lawyers and the interconnectedness of our world. You believe in forgiveness and people sorting shit their out and daffodils.
You believe that there's no more time for pity or self-pity or the unexpressed, and no more time to nurture organisms that deflect warmth or attention. You believe you are moving at the right speed. You believe in doing what you're doing. You believe in a progressive independent political system, that doesn't suffer fools or tolerate bad overtures to religion or corporatists or twisted social justice.
You believe you've had a good life up to now. You believe you have been privileged. You are grateful for everything you have and for everything that's happened. You don't regret a thing. You are single, have had a few great relationships, and believe there's a greater one out there.
You believe in God and the idea of God and the holiness of family. You believe that America believes it's "exceptional." You sometimes believe that, too.
You believe in the power of meditation and the importance of community. You are surrounded by friends. Your overwhelmed with joy and humor everyday, even when you don't see it. You have been given many gifts. You believe in folk remedies. You miss your father more than you've allowed yourself to know. You believe in prayer. You believe in others. Your life is just beginning. You believe in love.
