Peaceful right?

Lopez, Melissa 2/18/10 Period 5 SMART/Career Path Research Paper Over the past couple of weeks, our class has been discussing our smart goals and career paths. For my smart goal, I decided to achieve getting a 4.0 grade point average by the end of the semester. As for my career path, I am striving to become a child psychologist. In order to achieve these goals, I need to stay on top of my studies and try to get accepted to a good college. It has always been my dream to be a child psychologist, and by getting straight A’s and getting accepted into a great college, I can make it happen. All throughout elementary school and junior high, I have received good grades. I have always been a good student, and maintained good grades. Though, when I got to high school, I suffered a loss when it came to grades. Freshmen year was hard for me, because I was juggling hard classes and being on the cheer team, therefore my grades weren’t as great as I wanted them to be. Though, this year I am really trying harder to get better grades, maybe even straight A’s. My experience with good grades and great study habits will help me really apply them this year to get the grades I want to succeed. When I get these outstanding grades, I will apply to a great college and hopefully be accepted. From there, I will go on to get a degree in psychology, then open my own office. To attain my goal, and stay on my career path, I will need to train myself to do this. I will train myself by studying hours at a time, and getting into awesome study habits. In order to achieve a goal, there are multiple building blocks that need to fit together so that you are able to accomplish a goal. One of the building blocks is studying. You have to study to get good grades. You need good grades to get into a good college. Also, you need a degree from a good college to pursue your dream career. Each block builds off the other, so it is a process. Studying will really further advance my goal process and life long career goal. All my life, I have grown up with a big, supportive family. Throughout my experience of babysitting and getting lectures from family, I fully understand how to care for children, and the lessons I have received from older family members. The reason I chose child psychology is because I have spent a lot of time with my younger family members, and I understand what they are all about. I believe I can use my skills of care-taking to get inside a child’s mind and help them resolve their problems. As for my older family, when I was younger and made mistakes, they always knew just what to say to me to make me feel better, or to help me learn a lesson from something bad I had done. Applying these lectures and life building skills I’ve acquired throughout the years to my future profession, I am confident I will be a successful child psychologist. To achieve this, my working environment will have to be better. I need to become more organized and more enthusiastic about work and getting things done. Even though I am mostly good about turning in big projects and assignments on time, I usually procrastinate. I know that it is bad, but it has become a habit to procrastinate. Procrastination is not a good working habit, because if you hold things off to the last minute, the outcome won’t be the best work that you can produce. Better work is work that is well thought out, and planned in a process. If you try to plan out a working process last minute, you won’t get the results that you desire. For example, let’s say that I slacked off all semester and didn’t do any work and there are two weeks left until the end of the school year. If I wanted to achieve my goal of getting straight A’s, it would be far too late. There is no way that I could get all of my grades up to A’s in such little time and my goal would be a big failure. That’s why procrastination is a nasty habit that I must break myself from. I am truly lucky to have been blessed with a good lifestyle. I have a big family, and a loving mother and father to support me with anything I set my mind to. My older sister also helps me through a lot. She has been through everything I am going through right now, so I get a lot of advice from her. My family gives me a lot of educational advice, and supports me through my school and hobbies. I love how they are so encouraging and help me succeed. As for my friends, they have always been there for me, and will continue to motivate me to strive for success. With the moral support from my family and friends, I am confident that I can achieve my long term and short term goals. I know that they will always be here for me, and support my every move. My lifestyle is made 10 times better with all of them in the picture. Overall, I have set goals for myself that I am determined to accomplish. I know they won’t happen overnight, but with the skills and habits that I will acquire, I am sure I can achieve my goals. Everyone has a dream, and I do too. With the support from loved ones, and a positive mentality, I can accomplish anything. I can tell you now that I WILL achieve my goals, and I will make something of myself.
