Eniola mi owon! Eni iyi! Eni eye!
Happy birthday to you, best girl. Big 21 — is this real? I can’t seem to fathom it; it feels like time went by so fast. Still, I can’t say there was no effect. We are definitely not the same person who just ended up in Bradford by God’s guidance. Baby girl, we’ve grown, you’ve grown. You have overcome some of the worst feelings and experiences that, in the moment, seemed heart-wrenching.
God did, He is doing, and He will still do. Remember the first few months when you were earnestly praying for God to make these three years enough for you to grow into an excellent person in every ramification? You wanted progress, and He gave it to you. You had local and even international internships. Girl, you started making money, taking care of yourself, taking care of your loved ones, and being self-sufficient to some extent. Which of the favours of your Lord would you deny?
You went into a relationship and had a good time until things started to fall apart. You were ridden with pain, heartache, and guilt. You never thought there was any light at the end of the tunnel. Oh, how confused you were. Oh, how much that experience has shaped us. You did your best with what you had and what you knew in the moment. Granted, you could have handled certain situations better, but Allah a’lam (Allah knows best). Khayr, inshaAllah. You feel a lot better now, don’t you? As much as there is little to no understanding currently as to why things turned out the way they did, I am glad you chose yourself. You were created to serve Allah. You deserve happiness on your own terms, even though sometimes you want to go out of your way to make people happy.
Look at you now, having a silly crush on someone younger than you (still don’t know why you have a crush on him, have you heard his opinions?). I woke up feeling like I don’t like him anymore. We’ll see how long that lasts. I digress. The point is, your naseeb is coming sooner than you think. And with him there will be no doubt, and from his side, no doubt as well. His love for you will be greater than that of Lanre, and you will be mesmerised and feel at peace, bi idhnillah. Genuinely, which of the favours of your Lord would you deny?
As much as there is still a good number of things to heal from, you can’t deny that you are in a much better place, probably the best you have been in a while. Let’s take a second to compare this year to last year. You had so much anxiety, worry, pain, and stress last year. This year’s situation is not entirely the best, I can even say you have more uncertainties than ever, but there is peace. The anxiety is not unbearable, and there is acceptance and understanding. Alhamdulillah! I love where we are at, and I hope it is only up from here.
Omo olojo ibi, I want you to enjoy today, enjoy this week, enjoy this month even (sha, don’t spend all your money 😊). Celebrate yourself, spoil yourself, and stop waiting for others, girl. Bask in God’s mercy, grace, and faithfulness in your life. Give to others as a gesture of appreciation to the Best Provider.
Don’t fret. Don’t be anxious. Don’t cry over what can’t be changed. Be grateful because you are in a better position than you ever imagined you would be when you left Nigeria. Be full of love and let light shine from within. I know your worries and fears. Know that the Allah who has taken care of you up until this point will not leave you. He knows you, He knows your voice, and He is planning, trust that He will surprise you exceptionally.
So girl, be free. Write your feelings, be kind, give love, spend time with yourself and your loved ones (don’t keep score!). This year is going to be your best yet. It is about to be filled with the sweetness of deen and closeness to Allah you have never experienced before, love, guidance, financial stability, better recognition of self, purpose, and direction.
I love you, and I will continue to be here for you and hold space for you. Today is your day, girl, go forth and jaiyeeeeee.
Where is the party at? 🎉
