Time Travelled — 6 months

Peaceful right?

Dear Future Me, As you reach the end of your internship, take a moment to pause and appreciate how far you have come and celebrate yourself. When you first started, you were eager as you dreamed about what the future could look like for yourself in this field. You knew that there would be multiple challenges by being a full-time employee with demanding and long hours and full-time student. However, you did not let that deter you from your goals. Between now and the end of this term, I want you to accomplish a few key things such as continuing to building strong, trusting relationships with clients by showing empathy, patience, and understanding; Strengthening your clinical and assessment skills, especially when working with individuals who are struggling with substance use or mental health challenges; and learning to balance your time and responsibilities effectively so that you can give your best both to your clients and to yourself. Grow in confidence and trust your instincts and remember that you belong in this field! I want you to remember how meaningful this experience has been. Remember the clients who trusted you enough to share their stories, the supervisors and colleagues who guided you, and the moments when you truly made a difference, even in small ways. This is the most rewarding feeling in the world, and you will remember the names and faces of people that you helped along the way. Remember that growth often happens in moments of discomfort, stress, or confusion but you have showed that everyday you were willing to learn and improve. When you read this at the finish line, I hope you are proud of yourself. You have faced challenges, learned from mistakes, and continued to show compassion and professionalism in your work. Remind yourself that you are capable, resilient, and deeply committed to helping others. Good luck on your future endeavors!
