Dear FutureMe, After learning about Engaged Learning experiences, the two I want to pursue between now and graduation are studying abroad and the professional work experience. This engaged learning experience could help me with my academic and personal goals because I want to look at how the day to day life as a forensic engineer is like and so doing some professional work experience with them would give me an insight about what I’m going for career wise. For studying abroad I want to expand my knowledge about how this career I’m going for looks like in different countries and see the difference in cases and the procedures they have to do that’s different than us. The profiles of learning for undergraduate success that this experience can help me develop is being a communicator and community contributor. Using these skills would help me because being a great communicator involves talking with everyone from clients to peers and others to then be able to make sure there isn’t any miscommunication when it comes to cases or other vital information. Being a community contributor is helpful because you then can have knowledge when it comes to new environments and also different cultures that you are going to be in, especially when studying abroad. The next step is to definitely go and see the studying abroad program and talk to my advisor about this opportunity. Also making sure that I will have and find enough resources for this program like talking with a peer who has done the program and what essential things I should learn about before applying. Afterwards if I do get accepted to studying abroad then I would want to update my resume on how I went through this experience and then add any skills I learned while being abroad. The same goes for the professional work experience where I first want to do more research and also talk with my advisor and other staff to learn more about the program. Then ask a peer on how it went with them and what experiences they had while doing the professional work experience. I want to plan on doing these learning opportunities during either the fall semester of 2026 or in the spring semester of 2027. It should give me enough time to engage in these two opportunities before my expected graduation.
