Dear FutureMe,
I don’t even know where you’ll be when you’re reading this, but I hope you’re safe. Right now, I’m sitting here with so many feelings tangled inside of me. There’s a lot of pain that I don’t always show, but there’s also a tiny spark of hope that refuses to die.
You’ve been through so much. You know what I’m talking about~ April was the darkest month. You made it through nights you thought you wouldn’t. You’re still here. Even on days when you feel like you’re drowning, you’ve somehow kept breathing. I’m proud of you for that. I hope you’re proud too. And if you’re not yet, I hope you’ve learned how to be.
Jordan is still the center of my heart right now. Long distance is hard, but he’s my soft place to land when the world feels sharp. I dream about standing on the bleachers at one of his football games, screaming his name, finally seeing him not through a screen but right in front of me. I picture my hands clutching the rail, my heart pounding, my voice breaking as I yell for him, tears streaming because it’s real. If you’ve done it~ if you’ve hugged him, watched him play, felt the grass under your feet~ I hope you smiled so big you almost cried. I hope you remember the weight of that moment and how badly you wanted it.
School feels heavy but you’re holding your own. That’s something no one can take from you. I’m proud of you for showing up even when it’s hard, for pushing through when your mind tells you to give up. Every test, every assignment, every day you get out of bed is a small victory. I hope by now you’ve given yourself credit for those victories instead of brushing them off.
I don’t know where you are right now~ maybe you’re still figuring things out, maybe you’re stronger, maybe you’ve slipped and had to start over. But please remember this: You have survived 100% of your hardest days so far. You’re loved. You’re needed. The world is better with you in it. Jordan loves you. People love you. I love you. Even when you can’t feel it, it’s still true.
Future me, I hope you’re softer with yourself now. I hope you can breathe easier, that you’ve kept fighting for yourself as fiercely as you’ve fought for others. I hope you’ve laughed so hard your stomach hurt. I hope you’ve had a night where you lay under the stars and felt calm. I hope you’ve found new reasons to stay. And if you haven’t yet, I hope you keep looking, because they’re out there.
If you’re reading this, you made it a year. That’s a miracle. Don’t forget it. You’re proof that even when it feels impossible, you can keep going. You’re proof that there’s still more life waiting for you.
No matter where you are, no matter what’s happened, I want you to know this: I’m proud of you. I’m proud you’re still here. I’m proud of every breath you’ve taken. And I promise you this~ even if the world changes, even if people come and go, I will always be rooting for you. You’re worth every fight, every tear, every sunrise. Don’t ever forget that.
With all the love in the world,
Me <3
