Dear Future Me,
I hope to see you happy with the choices you're making. I hope you're choosing wisely, wiser than I did. And I hope, above all, that you’ve learned to value yourself more than I do right now.
It wasn’t meant for you. And that’s okay. It walked out of your life because it was never meant to stay. That truth is hard to accept, but it's one we need to be thankful for.
You prayed: “If it’s really not meant for me, please remove the desire in my heart to have it. Let me find peace in its absence.”
Maybe by now, you know why it had to be taken from you. Maybe you’ve made peace with it. I hope so.
I want to see you become better than me.
I need you to be.
I’ll be doing the work to make that possible. I’ll carry the weight of this choice. I’ll sit in the discomfort, mourn what I thought would be, and slowly find peace in what’s no longer mine. I’ll find a way to be okay in the space it left behind.
Do better with what I’m giving you. Be better than me.
