Dear Vern,
It's Vern! You're writing this to yourself because of Competitive Edge. I am so proud of you for getting into this PhD Program. Right now, you are insanely nervous about the placement test, and you are really hoping you will do well, specifically on the Greek section. I hope you carry your passion for learning with you and your tenacious desire to work hard and push yourself. I want to remind you when things get hard that your writing is brilliant and you have a future in this field and in the writing world itself. You will accomplish your dreams even if it takes you a while. Being disabled does not mean you have to compete with an imaginary version of yourself that is able-bodied and doing their PhD, because that version of yourself doesn't exist and isn't the one that got you into the PhD in the first place. I hope you and Mikołaj are well. Tell them you love them with all of your heart for me, and that their dream of accomplishing something phenomenal is not a fantasy, it's an inevitability, and they are the most intelligent person we know.
Vern, you're going to write amazing things, I hope. We've overcome so much. Give Artemis and Apollo a kiss for me. I hope those kitties are as crazy as ever and loafing in the middle of the living room as you read this.
All my love and see you in a year,
Vern
