Dear Sami,
I hope you’ve left him and Pittsburgh, even though there’s still a part of you (at least now) that wishes you didn’t have to.
I just think we both know if you stay in Pittsburgh, it will be too easy to become the worst version of yourself. Now, that version isn’t bad. She still will have a good job, an apartment, friends, and hobbies. But she won’t be pushing herself to be better. She will always live in the shadows of her memories — not only who she was but the people that made her up too. Two failed relationships (a best friend and a boyfriend) is too much for a city to handle. Unless somehow your current job offers you a salary of 80K which I think is highly unlikely giving the financial circumstances of said company.
What people don’t realize is that when you walk away from him, you’re walking away from your boyfriend, best friend, and family over the past 3 years. It’s your partner who you’ve made your life around. I wanted this to work more than anything, but I realize now that it can’t. At least not right now. And if it can’t work now, staying in it until it works isn’t healthy for either of you.
So maybe it’s a year from when you’re writing this, and you’re in a different city with a different job with a different life. But even if you’re not, I’m still proud of you for making it this far. You are stronger than you realize and capable of anything. And I wish it was easier for you, but maybe easy isn’t right. So here’s to doing it the right way.
