Dear FutureMe, Today was really quite the mess, work computer -wise. Back on Wednesday, OpenSuSE Leap 15.6 presented me with an update to apply, which it does reasonably often, and I clicked Yes. That was a mistake. Here on my main machine at home, Fedora 42 KDE Workstation does updates all the freaking time. OpenSuSE at work, not so much. This one popped up the NVIDIA license confirmation button. That was the clue (I didn't recognize) that Friday was going to be a wasted day. On Thursdays I work in-person in the office, so my work computer does not power on at 4:00 AM. Friday, my work computer powered on, but all four screens were completely blank. The NVIDIA drivers did not load, and even text mode display was broken. Eventually, I had to power down the machine and physically remove the Quadro 400 from the machine. OpenSuSE has given me these types of problems before, so I thought to myself "Heck with it. I'm going to switch to Fedora 42 KDE Workstation". I don't know if this is completely fair, because the _only_ Linux machine I have running NVIDIA is this work machine. It is entirely possible that after switching to Fedora 42 KDE Workstation, I'm still going to have Quadro 400 problems. Still, I need to copy my KVM images to an external backup (I bought a Seagate USB backup a long time ago). But I want the graphical interface to get the Seagate mounted, and getting the graphical interface on OpenSuSE is just super painful. Eventually I did, but now the copy from the KWV source directory to the backup is going to take hours. I'm mostly offline at work. I do have a laptop that lets me RDP into my minitower machine in my cubicle at work; but, the screen is so small that it is difficult to get much done. I did update an Exchange Online M365 group to match the other groups. But since I mostly am offline, waiting for these file copies to finish so I can wipe the OS drive and install Fedora 42, I did play with my home website a little bit. I've added a countdown timer for my retirement date. I _should_ receive this email about two weeks after I retire. :-D
