Dear FutureMe,
How are you doing? Okay? It’s winter, I know, and that can be tough. But I have faith in you. You can continue. You will do well on your tests, your plays will be successful, and hopefully, you won’t wind yourself into too much anxiety. I wish I could help you more with that last one but I’m still figuring it out. I know that tea and writing always help.
Buy some granola bars to snack on when you’re hungry, rest during the “in between” moments like bus rides, stay kind and helpful to your friends and always have what to look forward to. Don’t waste your money, don’t trust too easily, get enough food and sleep and wear outfits that make you feel confident in yourself, especially on those days when you’re feeling down. Think fedoras, ankle boots or heels, nice blouses, blazers and jackets, wide pants with pockets. Even lipstick if you really need an extra boost of enthusiasm and self esteem. You’d be surprised how much attire can contribute to your mood. Keep waiting, keep dreaming, keep doing and keep hoping. Keep surviving if you must but keep living if you can. Notice smells, tastes, textures and sounds. Appreciate good weather. Have a reason to get through early, cold mornings when you feel too tired to get out of bed, let alone walk fifteen minutes to the central station.
Feelings aren’t always best confessed. True, years ago your best friend convinced you that if you don’t tell you’ll go crazy, but that’s not always the case. And take a tip from your current situation- awkwardness is up to you because it’s often all in your head. You choose how to see a conversation. You choose whether to read too much into something. Make good choices.
You’re a good person. Even when you’re mad or sad or frustrated or stressed. Even when you snap and yell at people. Even when you stay up late reading Buzzfeed articles instead of folding laundry and then going to sleep on time. Even when the world seems to be against you. You’re a good person. Remember that, and please, please try to believe it.
I give you all my encouragement and support. To quote Mrs. Doubtfire, All my love to you, poppet, you’re going to be alright.
