Peaceful right?

Dear FutureMe, Wow you're old! Working with Ampact Reading Corps has taught me many things about students and myself. One of the most important things I've realized about the kiddos I've worked with is that providing honest belief that they can succeed is contagious. You have to overcome their own self-doubt, which can take much effort. I have learned that besides having patience, you need to really reiterate this belief every day. Not only does your belief in a child's ability result in reading growth, it affects their self-esteem so much. The most rewarding part of tutoring is seeing the overall difference in how the child views himself/herself. I have grown so many ways from being a tutor. Flexibility is not something I've had to use in previous jobs but it's so needed in tutoring. What works for one kiddo does not necessarily translate to another kiddo. My pride in these students and their ability to overcome obstacles with just a bit of empathy understanding, kindness and faith is overflowing.
