Peaceful right?

Dear FutureMe, Dear Future Stephanie, As you read this, I hope you’re in a place of growth, maturity, and peace. I’m writing to you from a point in time where you had to face the consequences of a mistake—one that you’ve taken responsibility for and are committed to learning from. Not long ago, I made a poor decision. I took a Pop-Tart from the Portsmouth Café without paying. At the time, I didn’t think anyone would notice, and I didn’t fully consider the consequences. But it did matter—because even when something feels small or harmless, it reflects something bigger: my values, my integrity, and how I choose to move through the world. When I was confronted, I was honest about what I did, and even though it was uncomfortable, I knew I had to own up to it. Since that incident, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on who I want to be and what I stand for. I understand now that even minor actions can lead to bigger consequences, and every choice I make either builds up or breaks down my character. I’ve come to see this not just as a punishment, but as an opportunity—a chance to slow down and really consider my decisions. I’ve been asked to write this letter and reimburse the cost of the item I took. And while the monetary value of that Pop-Tart was small, the lesson has been huge. In writing this, I’m committing to holding myself accountable—not just to others, but to myself. I want to be someone who can be trusted, who thinks before acting, and who takes the harder right over the easier wrong. I know life will continue to present challenges, and there may be moments where I stumble again. But I hope you—future me—can look back on this and see it as a turning point. A moment when you started thinking more deeply about your actions and took the steps to become more mindful, responsible, and grounded in your values. Wherever you are right now, I hope you’ve continued to grow from this. I hope you’ve forgiven yourself, learned from your past, and used it to shape a more intentional and honorable future. With accountability and hope, Stephanie
