A Letter to Michi (from Future Michi)
Michi,
I still remember this time.
The time when it felt like your whole world crashed down,
when everything you trusted broke right in front of you.
I remember exactly how it felt:
every breath heavy, every night ending in tears,
waking up like the whole weight of the world just dropped onto your chest.
You felt shattered.
You thought you’d never believe in love again,
felt empty, even within yourself.
But I’m here to tell you:
that wasn’t the end.
The heartbreak that felt impossible, the wounds that cut too deep —
you made it through them.
Not overnight, not easily,
but day by day, pain slowly lost its grip.
I know it might sound crazy to you right now, writing this through shaking hands,
but truly — you’re laughing again.
You can sleep through the night without breaking down first.
You wake up without feeling like the world is out to get you.
And more than that, Michi,
you ended up feeling something you thought you'd lost forever:
love.
Not the kind of love that you have to beg for.
Not the love that makes you feel like you’re holding your breath.
But the kind that’s light.
The kind that’s calm.
The kind where you don’t have to pretend to be stronger than you are,
where you don’t have to hide your old scars.
I don’t know exactly who they are —
maybe they’re already here, maybe they’re still on their way —
but the feeling is different:
you’re not looking for someone to fill the emptiness anymore,
you’re just sharing the fullness you found within yourself.
Michi, you wrote this letter thinking you’d never heal.
Now, you’re reading it knowing you didn’t just heal —
you grew.
You’re not the same person who once broke over someone who didn’t know how to love you.
Now you are whole.
Not because someone came to save you,
but because you saved yourself, little by little, every painful day you chose to stay.
If someday in the future you feel tired again,
read this, and remember:
you were once deep in the dark — and you made it out.
You’re stronger than you ever gave yourself credit for.
And more importantly, you finally know:
real love, the kind that doesn’t hurt, actually exists — and it’s not a fairytale.
I’m proud of you, Michi.
So proud.
From Michi in the future,
who lived through all your pain,
and now finally lives with all your light.
