Hi Future You! You had been going through it but are in a period of positivity and gratitude lately; thank God. Turns out, Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago was exactly the medicine I needed. I have been feeling so much better about life and where I am in it. Choosing not to stress about men and instead focus on other meaningful relationships I seek, especially with black women. I have been very intentional about building community and friendship and I am so excited about this pivot. I hosted my first dinner party last weekend and it was a hit!! (It started at 7pm and folks stayed until 11pm! Wild)
As I look ahead, if I can say in December of 2025 that I've made 3 very close friendships with fellow black women in the DMV with whom I trust and can rely on and who I admire (and vice versa), that would be a very successful year in my book. Truly. The older I get, especially without a partner or kids, the more I am realizing how important it is to have and sustain meaningful friendships. And a bad friend is worse than having no friends, so quality over quantity.
I met a fellow St. Louisan on Bumble BFF and we're going to brunch this weekend, wish me luck girly!!!
Love you soooooo much,
Nuvs
