Hi there, 30-year old me. Happy birthday!
It's you, from 2025. At 28 years old. I'm writing this almost one year from today. Julian is asleep on our bed. I will be taking him out for a walk soon.
I want you to remember this moment. I'm in the process of taking control of our life. Taking control. If we have stayed disciplined, then you are reaping the rewards right now. And you are set up for your 30s. If not, don't let it discourage you. Let this message remind you that you still have time.
Six months ago, I thought we’d always be a “failure.” Today? We’re proving that wrong. Resentment is fading. Excitement is taking its place.
I am no longer fighting time. I am partnering with it.
I hope that you are debt-free, or close to it. That you’ve kept budgeting, not out of fear, but because it’s given you freedom.
I hope that your body feels like a home, not a battleground. That you still move, whether in the gym, on hikes, or biking, because it gives you energy and brings you joy.
I wonder if our boy Julian is still wagging his tail, soaking up your love.
I wonder what you would say to me right now. This is the closest we could ever get to communicating with one another. But I won't ever hear back from you.
If things aren’t perfect yet (they never are), don’t panic. You’ve already proven you can rebuild. Just keep going. You’re here because 28-year-old you chose to show up, even when progress felt slow.
Remember, meaningful change is rarely instant yet it’s always worth the wait.
I love you,
Past You (March 3, 2024)
P.S. If Julian is still around, give him a big hug and take him outside a little longer than you may have otherwise.
