Dear FutureMe,
it's a few weeks since your 32nd Birthday and you're glad it's over. Alas, you wanted the day to be about you and instead it was about everyone else. I hope your 33rd birthday goes much better.
I've had this thought that I really wanted to pen so I don't forget. I wonder if it'll resonate as you're reading this. Only time will tell. A few years ago you read this book called the Midnight Library. It tells the story of a girl in Scotland (I think her name is Ellie, but don't quote me) who ends up in this library that exists between life and *****. It's called the Midnight Library. In the Midnight Library, are books, but not just any kind of books. The books are of Ellie's life if she had made a different choice at some point in her life. When she reads the book she enters that life with all of her previous experiences and knowledge of the Midnight Library. Every time she enters a new life she gets to choose if she'd like to live this new life or return to the Midnight Library. If she chooses to stay, she will forget her past life as well as the Midnight Library and her past experiences will be those in the life she's chosen. If she chooses to not stay, she will return to the Midnight Library to choose another book. Remember that the Midnight Library exists between life and ***** and that she was brought there because she wanted to die. If she chooses to return to her life, she will continue to live through the experiences she has tried to escape. She also gets to keep the memory of being in the Midnight Library. In the end, she decides to live but with this new perspective on life. it's a beautiful story.
There's this one part in the book that you still think about years after reading it. It's the part where Ellie discovers another person who is in a Midnight Library of his own. Only it's not a Library. It's a Kitchen. A Midnight Kitchen. Turns out the space between life and ***** is personalised to your own interests. After reading the book, you wondered what your "midnight library" might be and it's funny how quickly you were able to come up with an answer.
Your Midnight Library would be a Midnight Highway and to enter a new life you would take an exit or an off ramp. You're still unsure who your passenger would be. Maybe it would be your Mum. There's still time to think of who it might be.
I'm bringing this up as a reminder to live life without regrets. If you are ever curious about what life would be like if a decision was different here and there, why not try it out for your self. Keep trying new things. If it works out, that's great. If it doesn't work out, now you know. Don't forget that you really are awesome.
Keep on being you, always 🌻😊From PastYou
