A letter from Feb 17, 2025

Time Travelled — 11 months

Peaceful right?

Hello there, Today is February 2nd, 2025 and I am writing this letter to you, my future self. I want to write to you about how your year went and when you read it, at the beginning of the next year, you can look back and determine how much I got it right. You decided to stop playing Path of Exile at the beginning of February, specifically today and to do a “dry” February, meaning no video games for a month, at least. This had the desired effect. The first week was a struggle with low motivation and energy, but you did manage to work out at least a few times, stay away from the games and porn, and start focusing more on work and things outside work. You resumed going to the gym to do Muay Thai, you also visited the judo gym and later on, started to even do yoga regularly, as you were planning in 2024. You managed to have a lovely Valentine’s, you booked a nice restaurant, bought a flower, and had a nice day together. You really doubled down on fitness in February, March, and April, mixing cardio, calisthenics, and mobility and you managed to get into decent shape before going to the Czech in May. You got compliments from friends and family that you look good and fit. So today is February 17th and I am continuing with this letter. I know I know. It took me a while, but also a lot has happened since the beginning of the month. Do you remember the goals you set for yourself in Feb? Well you should because you pretty much nailed it. I am not gonna go through everything as that would be super long and I want to keep this more general, but mate, good job. Give yourself a pat on the back when you read this. The list was pretty ambitious, so maybe it is not 100% complete but you did focus on the basics and the most important aspects. Your main focus was to stay away from all of your ******* addictions. And man, it was a struggle. But the longer you kept going the easier it got. Yeah February was hard as **** and you had some relapses, but it just got better and better as you went on. You decided to dump weed, except on special occasions and not buy more than max 2gs per month. Bf had issues with it, but he got over it eventually and you both stayed mostly sober and focused on your ****. You did play some games here and there, but as a reward for a good month, completed a project or something like that. But the main thing is you managed to keep it in check. In Q2 you published your blog. Finally! Huge congrats there, you are officially a content creator now. And you have been writing and publishing new posts every week since then. Wow! That was a biggie. In May you went to CZ with bf and it was a ******* blast. You did a lot of travel and discovery together with bf, there were quite a few parties – Sis’s bachelorette party, Kim’s bachelor party, Dad’s 70th birthday, your birthday, and of course the wedding. You did deliver a lovely speech and got a lot of praise for that (that’s my man), bf had a surprise performance and sang a lovely song, Kim and Sis were really touched. You also managed to keep drinking in check and to stick with your essentials – your dailies, workouts, blog, you know what I mean. After the return from CZ, it was back into a routine and doubled down to new hobbies and stuff. You started to study Filipino again. You’re probably not fluent by the end of the year but you made great progress and really starting to be able to use the language a bit. Oh yeah, and I forgot, before we left for CZ Cassie gave birth to a batch of lovely puppies. You kept one and sold the rest which helped a lot to cover at least part of the costs of the trip. Tino started to rehearse way more before his tour, so you focused on yourself. An important thing – you deleted the contact of your dealer before bf left so that you wouldn’t get stuck in porn and coke after he left. And it worked, you really did not. You also managed to stabilize financially, it's not ideal, but because bf started working, the situation got better and you were able to save up some money in the second half of the year and keep investing. In November Bro arrived with his family and all of you had a great time. It was especially great for you so that you wouldn’t be just sitting home alone all the time. You also started to play the ukulele, and by the end of the year, you can play a few songs. Man, I can’t wait to meet you and hear those songs myself. It sounds like a lot of ****, but when you dumped all that **** that was just eating time and giving back nothing it actually became relatively easy. Oh and you also got your **** together at work, started to put some hours into it, learned a lot, met a lot of new people and gained a good reputation in the company, so job well done. Bf and his choir actually won the EGP and came back as even bigger celebrities. You had a great time after he got back, a mostly restful December and a lovely Christmas with him and his family. We also started getting ready for our move next year. All in all, you laid great foundations for your new identity and gave your old self (me haha) a proper middle finger. The lazy ****** is not gone yet and he probably never will be, but you did a great job of pushing him back and creating a new persona and for the first time in a long time you really like who you are and how you look. Cheers, and best of luck with the next year! I love you mate.
