Peaceful right?

Dear FutureMe, I hope that when you read this letter in the future, you will remember the important lessons you learned throughout this course about the ethical practices, professionalism when dealing with families with special needs children, and the compassion it takes to deal with special needs children alongside their families. As an educator myself, working with special needs children, it is very important to approach my everyday work situations with respect, support, and empathy for my students and their families. When working with special needs families, I know it is very important to communicate ethically. In order to do so, I ensure to protect the privacy of my students and their families, such as sharing sensitive information only with the parents, and the ones that need to know with the consent of the parents always. Another way is to have an open-ended communication system which is clear and honest. I like to ensure the conversations with my families are always transparent and based on facts. It is very important to be honest when it comes to the child's progress, any challenges they are facing, and other concerns. But at the same time, being sensitive about the family's feelings and what they have to say about the situation. Having a good form of communication encourages a bond of trust and cooperation. Moreover, I like to treat my families with respect by having a non-judgmental attitude. No matter what background, race, or socioeconomic status they have they will be always treated with respect. Since each family comes from a different perspective, I like to keep that in my mind when setting the goal for their children. I like to listen to their side and feedback as well and work together in order to support their child. Furthermore, having cultural sensitivity is another thing I am mindful of, because of families having diverse cultures and beliefs. And this can greatly impact on their understanding for their child's needs or the education system. This is why approaching with an open mind, and respecting their cultural views is part of my ethical practices. Lastly, I will always try to build a strong bond with the families in which their opinions and voices are valued. Since families are the child's first institute and teacher, it is essential I partner with them to make an effective plan for their children's education. and setting goals that are realistic. I am strongly committed to keep practicing and improving on these ethical practices. I will help to create a supportive environment in which children with special needs and their families feel the utmost respect, support and their voices heard. In the future, I hope I look back and feel proud the way I made an impact positively towards special needs children and their families that were under my care. Sincerely, Anam Ahmed
