Dear FutureMe,
whats up bro we better be fit by now man or imma be pissed also try to be less annoying but anyway here's the book I've been working on if i haven't finished it by now do it
Chapter one: My ordinary life
A man was standing in the woods in a suit and tie looking very out of place amongst the green grass and tall trees, he looked as if he should be in an office building or another place where business meetings would be held. He looked around for a moment.
“This is definitely not how I saw my day going.” The man said exasperatedly to the open air.
This man’s name was Robert Channing, nine hours prior Robert had been a campaign manager for a large computer company. Rob was driving down the street in his 1970’s dodge challenger that beauty was Rob’s pride and joy he loved that car he made his usual shortcut to the office getting there only ten minutes late rather than twenty. Robert would never be the model employee, but he tried his best nonetheless, his boss still yelled at him constantly this was one of those days.
“Late again Channing? This is the third time this week!” said Robert’s boss angrily.
“Sorry sir it’s my daughter I have to take her to school.” Robert said, trying to explain.
“What Is she sixteen? She can drive herself.”
“Actually, sir she’s only fourteen.”
“Well then make her ride a bike whatever it takes for you to get here on time!”
“Yes sir.” Robert said tiredly.
Later at lunchtime Robert could be found at the salad place down the street eating a cob salad, it was what Robert had for lunch every day. He headed back to the office soon after on his way he received a call from his daughter.
“Sophie what is it? You are lucky I am on my lunch break.”
“Dad, I got in trouble for fighting at school.”
“What!? What did you do? Why were you fighting?” Robert said immediately.
“It wasn’t my fault I swear.” Sophie said pleadingly.
“Explain yourself now.” Robert said angrily.
“They were picking on my friend, and I had to help her, but they didn’t see that, so I got in trouble they need you to come pick me up from school.”
“Sigh fine I will be there in thirty minutes my boss is going to be pissed. bye.” Robert hung up the phone. As Robert suspected his boss was indeed pissed.”
“You are breaking my balls here Channing.” Robert’s boss said with exasperation.
“I’m sorry sir.”
“Fine. But you better be here tomorrow Channing I do not care if you die, you are coming to work tomorrow, and you will be on time. You hear me?”
“Yes, sir loud and clear.” Robert said subordinately. It was a thirty-minute drive from the office to Sophie’s high school and twenty more from there to home. After he had picked Sophie up from school, they were on their car drive home.
“For the record I think you did the right thing trying to help your friend, but you still should have gotten a teacher.” Robert said softly.
“There was no time I couldn’t just let her get ******* while I went to find a teacher!” she argued.
“That’s fair but there was still probably a better path.”
“Maybe there was I don’t know I just did what I thought was right I’m sorry.” She said before looking out the window. They drove in silence the rest of the way home. Later that evening Robert decided to get them pizza for dinner, so he called ahead and ordered, then he got in his car and left. On his way to the pizza place he turned on the radio.
“Breaking news multiple people dressed in white hoodies and wearing masks just robbed the bank near downtown the police are asking all citizens to be on the lookout for these men but do not engage they are armed and dangerous.”
“Huh that’s not too far from where I’m headed whatever I’m sure the police will get them soon enough.” Soon after, he arrived at the pizza shop and his pizzas still were not ready. once they were finally done, he started to walk out to his car when he was stopped by a younger man in his late twenties.
“Excuse me sir do you know how to get to the island from here? I am afraid I must have gotten a little lost.”
“Ah yes all you need to do is go right down main and take a left then go straight that should take you too it.”
“Thanks, you that helps a lot.”
“No worries have a good evening.” Robert left the parking lot and headed back to his house which is situated on the island, so he knew how to get to the island very well. Halfway back home he was stopped at a stop sign when several men dressed in white hoodies came out of an alleyway one of them pulled out a pistol and pointed it at Robert.
“Give us the car now and no one gets hurt!” said one of the said one of the men in a deep voice.
“Listen I think there’s been a misunderstanding I…” he was cut off by the same man.
“No, you listen give us the car now.”
“I really don’t think you understand this car is all I have ple…” Robert was cutoff again this time not by a voice but by a *******. As Robert slumped in his seat, he saw under the hood of the man holding the *** it was the young man who asked for directions. That was the last think Robert saw before the world faded to black.
Robert awoke in a clearing in the middle of the woods. After Robert came to his senses he stood up and surveyed his surroundings. It was dark in the clearing; the trees blocked ninety percent of the light. It was also overcast; all of it gave the impression of being buried in leaves. Robert’s memory came back to him as he stood there, he quickly looked down at his chest, he immediately noticed two things there was no bullet wound and he was not wearing the same clothes he had been wearing before.
“Did they ******** with a tranquilizer *** and then put me in a suit before dumping me in the woods?” Robert wondered aloud. He stood there for another minute not doing anything then he spoke.
“This is definitely not how I saw my day going.” Robert then decided to stop standing around and he walked into the forest. As he walked deeper and deeper into the forest it got much darker Robert reached for his phone to use as a flashlight.
“Ah no phone of course.” After a few more minutes of walking the woods were so thick he could not see anymore. Robert decided to head back and try to start a fire because it was also getting late. When he arrived at the clearing, he was amazed to see a fire already burning in the middle along with a suspiciously soft looking bed of moss that he was sure was not there before, but it looked grown into the earth like it had always been there. Robert quickly looked around for the person who had made the fire but there was no one in sight. After waiting for a couple of minutes with no sign of anyone Robert decided to lie down by the fire on the moss he soon after fell asleep. Robert awoke in the early morning he looked around.
“What?” Robert said quizzically. The fire was missing there was not any ash even the rocks surrounding It were gone.
“Where did the fire go.” Robert said stupidly to the air there was obviously no response. Another oddity Robert noticed was there was now a path through the trees. The trees seemed to curve away as if they had been pruned for years to create a path.
“How did I miss that last time?” Robert wondered.
“Oh well best get going.” Right then his stomach rumbled. “Oh man I haven’t eaten since lunch yesterday.” Robert said with a groan. Robert jokingly looked back at the clearing that had seemed to give him what he wanted, and he was amazed to see a salad sitting where the fire had been.
“Alright what the hell.” Robert approached the salad tentatively once he reached it, he looked at it closer it was a cob salad from his favorite salad place.
“What is going on here.” Robert looked around but there still was no sign of anyone. He took the salad and sniffed it suspiciously before taking a bite with the provided fork.
“Mm.” Robert sighed with contentment. After Robert was done with his salad, he decided to just leave the bowl after all everything else disappeared after he was done with it. He then went back to the path he started fallowing the winding trail it seemed to be getting tighter and tighter Robert eventually reached an end to the path with two trees next to each other Robert could just barely squeeze through the gap because of his tall slender body once he was on the other side he took in his surroundings the forest seemed to just end and beyond it stretched on a seemingly endless expanse of crystalline stone that looked like the surface of a still pond you can faintly see mountains In the distance and a cool breeze blows softly across the serial landscape there doesn’t seem to be a direct light source the entire world seems to be lit from all around. Strange creatures can be seen in the distance. As Robert was taking in his environment he noticed a tower of smoke on the horizon.
“Maybe it’s a village.” Robert said hopefully and without any other options Robert set out. After hours of walking Robert was starting to get tired.
“Man, I’m not even halfway there if only I still had that magic clearing, I could just hope for like a dirt bike or something.” Robert looked backward toward the woods he had left behind, but they were not there.
“Okay this place is seriously freaky.” Robert said, scanning the landscape for any signs of the forest he woke up in. When he turned back around there was a dirt bike sitting there innocently.
“Like seriously freaky.” Robert also realized that he does not actually know how to ride a dirt bike.
“That was more of an example fantasy.” Robert said to the world. After an hour of trying to teach himself how to ride a dirt bike Robert finally gave up and to his surprise it was already getting dark. Robert found some dried branches on the ground and managed to use a piece of the odd crystalline stone to get a spark and light a fire.
“Man thank gods for all those outdoor survival videos.” Robert laid down near the fire and covered himself up with any foliage he could find, he soon fell asleep under the stars. Robert was woken up in the morning by the feeling of warm breath on his face. When he opened his eyes there was a great big wolf hovering right above him it also seemed to be made of stone when he gasped at the sight, the creature started to growl.
“Hey! Pablo what is it boy?” Said an unfamiliar female voice from out of Roberts view. The wolf whose name was apparently Pablo looked up and barked a strange looking woman walked up she had bright green hair and was also probably the shortest adult woman Robert had ever seen she started to look at him Robert quickly closed his eyes.
“What is it?” the woman repeated. The wolf then came up to Robert and pushed some of the leaves hiding Robert off.
“Woah who are you.” the woman said poking Robert with a stick.
“I um… I am Robert.”
“what’s that thing?” She said, pointing over Robert’s head, Robert looked up and saw she was pointing at the dirt bike.
“What the dirt bike?” Robert said curiously.
“What’s that?” she repeated.
“You don’t know what a dirt bike is?”
“Nope what Is it for? How do you use it? Whys it called a dirt bike?” she asked, talking faster than Robert could respond.
“Well to answer your first question it’s a vehicle you know like a car.” Robert said in response.
“What’s a car?”
“That’s a question for later let’s start with who you are.” Robert said forestalling any further questions.
“Oh, right I’m moss nice to meet you!” the girl said excitedly.
“Nice to meet you too. Next question what is up with your eyes? they look like mountains or like a valley or something.”
“What do you mean?” moss said looking at Robert quizzically.
“Your eyes they aren’t normal.”
“Gasp rude” moss said with affront.
“No, I didn’t mean it in a bad way they just look different.” Robert said quickly.
“ha-ha it’s okay you should have seen your face.” Moss said laughing then she turned sympathetic ” Well, I don’t know if you have checked your reflection since you got here but you might want to look.” Robert then took a good look at his reflection in the crystal. It wasn’t as clear as a real mirror, but he could still clearly see his eyes were indeed different, they looked reminiscent of two moons, one light and glowing and the other dark and endless. The dark eyes seemed to be changing as he watched.
“What?! What happened to my eyes? How did my eyes change?” Robert said rapidly.
“Hah you’re starting to sound like me.” Moss said with a chuckle. “Relax everybody’s eyes change when they come here.”
“That brings me to my next question where is here exactly? The last thing I remember is getting shot and everything going black.” Robert said, getting his mind back on track.
“You still haven’t figured out yet?”
Chapter two: Trying again
“You’re telling me I died?!” Robert said for the third time more to himself than to moss.
“Yes, I’m sorry I thought you would have figured out by now.” Moss said patiently.
“I mean it never even occurred to me really I was shot in the heart, how could I possibly survive that?” Robert said pacing.
“Wait I’m sorry that never even occurred to you? Really?” moss said exasperatedly.
“No, I mean I never thought that this was what heaven was like.” Robert said coming to a stop in front of moss.
“Like you never even had the thought?” Moss said with a bit of amusement leaking into her voice.
“I mean I had the idea of course but I just dismissed it out of hand.”
“I guess that makes sense but still pretty funny.” moss said with a giggle.
“Hush you.” Robert said in a light tone, moss laughed more.
“But anyway, this is what heaven is like?” Robert asked moss who was still laughing at him.
“Yup it’s not like the classic idea of heaven your used to but pretty much.” Moss responded gesturing vaguely towards the endless fields of crystalline stone.
“This doesn’t seem very paradise-e. you know. Wait is this hell?!” Robert said eyes dilating. Suddenly moss noticed Roberts dark eye had become a dark red and seemed to be swirling faster now.
“Interesting.” moss said scratching her chin.
“What? What is it?” Robert said looking at moss apprehensively.
“Your eye it changed again.” Moss said, getting closer to Robert’s face.
“What? Why do they keep doing that?!” his eye became a deeper red.”
“Hah look at that. You’re like a chameleon.”
“Wha… how, what do you mean?” Robert said, growing increasingly concerned.
“Oh, it’s nothing to worry about, I’m sure.” Moss said confidently.
“Oh, you’re sure, are you?”
“Yeah, definitely you’ll be fine probably I’m ninety five percent sure.”
Robert looked at moss with one eyebrow raised which didn’t have much effect considering she was about five inches away from his face.
“don’t be such a nervous nelly.” Moss said giving Robert a little smack across the face.
“Hey!” Robert said rubbing his cheek. As suddenly as it had changed his eye magically turned black as if nothing had happened.
“Huh look at that.” Moss said curiously.
“What now?” Robert said, getting worried again.
“don’t worry it changed back.” Moss said patting him on the shoulder.
“Oh, great they’re just regular magical moons now.” Robert said rolling his eyes.
“Oh, stop complaining. They’re actually pretty cool.” Moss said consolingly. Robert smiled back at her.
“Not as cool as mine of course.” Moss added on smugly.
“Pfft.” Robert scoffed.
“Sureeee whatever you say.” Robert said smirking. This time his light eye started glowing brighter and turning a light blue.
“Wow look at that you really do, do that a lot.” Moss said surprised.
“Not again.” Robert said rolling his special eyes.
“I think they might be tied to your emotions.” Moss said looking the eye with curiosity.
“You figured that out from my eye changing colors twice?” Robert said, raising his brow.
“Well, when you were upset your dark eye turned red and got redder the more upset you were and not your bright eye lit up when you were happy and relaxed.” Moss said, explaining.
“That actually does make sense.” Robert conceded.
“Well as long as it doesn’t seem to do anything else I think we can just ignore it for now.” Moss said shrugging.
“Yeah, well I have been meaning to ask you some things.” Robert said.
“Yeah?” moss said curiously.
“First what is Pablo like it seems like he’s made out of stone or something?”
“Oh Pablo? he’s what’s called a dire wolf.” Moss said patting Pablo on the top of his head.
“Wait but isn’t a dire wolf a thing in the other world to?” Robert said questioningly.
“Yes, but here they are a little different as you’ve probably noticed.” Moss said
“Yeah, I have also second question why does this place seem so barren shouldn’t it be more paradise-e and stuff you know unicorns; angels stuff like that?” Robert said, looking around.
“Yeah, well this place was supposed to be just that paradise, but it was a complete failure.” Moss said looking down.
“Why did it fail so bad?” Robert asked Moss.
“Well, it turns out that if you put everyone who ever died in a place and give them literally everything, they ever wanted it doesn’t go so well so now we can only wish for small things such as food or that there “dirt bike”.” Moss said looking at the vehicle still with curiosity.
“Oh, huh interesting so everyone who dies comes here?” Robert said, thinking.
“Yup everybody.” Moss said nodding emphatically.
“Wait so Hitlers here and stuff?!” Robert said shocked.
“Well, no we ****** him a long time ago duh.” Moss said as if it was obvious.
“Wait ******? You can die here? How does that even work.”
“Well obviously.”
“What the hell do you mean obviously?!”
“Well, I mean this place would be full of people if everyone was alive.”
“I mean maybe that makes sense but like what happens to you when you die?”
“Oh, that’s simple you just stop existing unless the person who ****** you decides to seal your soul and then you become a little ghost guy trapped in an item.”
“Wait hang on I have another question how is it that you know who Hitler was, but you don’t know what a car is?”
“Oh well we usually hear about major historical events here because all the dead people tell us about it, but we often don’t hear about inventions because people usually don’t go around screaming about inventions like for example, I didn’t know what **** were until a year or two ago.”
“Interesting I guess that makes sense wait when were you born that you didn’t know about Hitler, cars, or ****?” Robert asked quizzically.
“Oh, I was born in ancient Greece.” she said nonchalantly.
“Wait what?!” Robert said dropping the rock he had been messing with. “That was like three thousand years ago.”
“Yeah, but times weird here I’ve only experienced about thirty years.” Moss responded.
“Wait so you’re three thousand years old?”
“Well yeah but like I said I’ve only really experienced 30 years here.” Moss said completely nonchalantly.
“But I guess that means you’re pretty accustomed to this place, right?” Robert said shaking off the surprise from the news.
“Yup this place is my home I’ve lived here longer than I lived on earth I was only sixteen years old when I died.” Moss said sadly.
“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t realize.” Robert apologized immediately.
“It’s okay this place is my home.” Moss said smiling perhaps a little too brightly.
“Well in that case could you tell me a little about this place?” Robert asked.
“Well, those hills over there are lone pine hill that’s where the only village for kilometers is located.
