Dear Future Me,
You are graduating college—okay, woah. At least, I hope you are. If you're not, that's fine—you've got more time! I'm excited and honestly really, really scared for you. But I'm meant to reassure you; I'll do that.
You are an amazing person. People said you couldn't do it, but you got your degree in Computer Science (I hope you did) at the University of Chicago (a really tough school)!
You have a job offer right out of college (please, please, please), and it's a really well-paying job (if it's not, I'm going to kms), and you're living away from your family (bless them, but you'd be arguing within a week).
Perhaps you've found love (at this school? Yeah, right), or perhaps not. Perhaps you've made a friend group worth preserving for the future and beyond (I hope so).
I know you've still kept up the faith, but it doesn't hurt to pray a little more. Or just sit with Him a bit.
It's a rough world—it's hard times. I ought to be saving more money so that you won't starve and be homeless, so I'll start doing that now (but I'm going to blow off a few grand in the coming months since I'm "studying" in Paris😛! But after that, I promise I'm going to keep saving).
I'm so, so, so proud of you, Future Me. You've done a lot of work. I hope you continue to stay with your passions, but I understand it's difficult. Money and Passions—easier life or art—are difficult to reconcile because you have a family to support.
But love and continue to love, seek art and continue to make art, just keep it up, keep moving and living, because eventually we'll all be dead and gone, and what matters is the answer to the questions: "Did you do your very best? Did you do what you love? Did you love to the fullest extent?"
If you said yes three times, then you've really succeeded. If you answered no to one of them, then you better go fix that.
I love you lots. I always will; I want to remind you of that, especially since we have a long-standing habit of saying otherwise.
Love you always,
Me from March 2024 <3
