Dear Future Me,
I am writing this letter to you from the year 2023. I don't know when you will read this, or what your life will be like then, but I hope that you are happy and fulfilled. I hope that you have achieved some of the things that you wanted to do, and that you have learned from the challenges and failures that you faced along the way. I hope that you have grown as a person, and that you have made a positive impact on the world.
I also hope that you have not forgotten the philosophy that guides you: optimistic nihilism. You believe that life has no inherent meaning or purpose, but that this is not a reason to despair or give up. On the contrary, this is a reason to create your own meaning and purpose, and to pursue your passions and interests with enthusiasm and joy. You believe that you have the freedom and responsibility to shape your own destiny, and that you can make the most of your existence by being kind, curious, and courageous. You believe that happiness is not a destination, but a state of mind, and that you can find happiness in the present moment, regardless of the circumstances.
You may wonder why I am reminding you of these things, since you already know them. Well, I am doing this because I know that life can be hard and unpredictable, and that sometimes you may feel lost or confused. You may face difficulties or disappointments that make you question yourself or your choices. You may encounter situations or people that challenge your beliefs or values. You may experience changes or transitions that make you feel uncertain or anxious. You may even have moments of doubt or despair, when you wonder if anything matters at all.
When you face these moments, I want you to remember this letter, and the person who wrote it. I want you to remember that you are not alone, and that you have a past self who cares about you and supports you. I want you to remember that you have a future self who is waiting for you and cheering for you. I want you to remember that you have a present self who is capable and resilient, and who can overcome any obstacle or adversity. I want you to remember that you have a philosophy that empowers you and inspires you, and that you can always rely on it to guide you and motivate you.
I also want you to remember that you are not perfect, and that you don't have to be. You are a human being, and you have flaws and limitations, just like everyone else. You make mistakes, and you have regrets, just like everyone else. You have fears and insecurities, just like everyone else. But you also have strengths and talents, just like everyone else. You have achievements and successes, just like everyone else. You have hopes and dreams, just like everyone else. You are unique and valuable, just like everyone else.
So, don't be too hard on yourself, or too proud of yourself. Don't compare yourself to others, or judge yourself by others. Don't let others define you, or limit you. Don't let the past haunt you, or the future scare you. Don't let the present bore you, or the future overwhelm you. Just be yourself, and enjoy yourself. Just live your life, and love your life.
That is all I wanted to say to you, my future self. I hope that this letter finds you well, and that you are happy. I hope that you are proud of who you are, and what you have done. I hope that you are grateful for what you have, and what you have given. I hope that you are optimistic about what you can do, and what you can become. I hope that you are still a nihilist, but an optimistic one.
With love,
Your Past Self
