Dear FutureMe,
Narrating My Story: A Journey Through Time
Our lives are a continuous narrative that is shaped by the experiences, challenges, and the people we meet and lost along the way. From the moment of our birth, the story of our lives begins to unfold, and each chapter contributes to our growth and development. In this essay, I will talk about the significant moments in my life, from the day I was born to the present day as a college freshman. This narrative will include the joys, trials, self-doubt, and self-discovery that have shaped my journey and made me who I am today.
My story begins with my birth, in a small town of Laurel Batangas, where the warm embrace of my family shaped my earliest memories. It was the moment where the love and care they provided, and the values and traditions, became the foundation of my identity.
Childhood was a time of exploration and curiosity. This chapter is a journey back to the age of wonder, where I, along with my cousins, discovered the magic hidden in the ordinary. Our small compound in the province was not just a place; it was our “home”. Every inch of that space held a memory and shared adventure that I will trade anything just so I could go back.
Then the teenage years arrived where the season of transformation happens. My once-clear dreams of becoming a lawyer began to blur with questions about who I am and who I really wanted to become. Academic pressure added to the complexity of this period, as the race for high grades and extracurricular achievements became all draining. The weight of expectations from parents, teachers, and myself bore down, threatening to crush the spirit that had once been so carefree. Nevertheless, I managed to maintain being a consistent honor student, which I'm very proud of, as it brought happiness to my family, especially my parents.
During my senior high school years, I took the opportunity to explore new things. I decided to join organizations and tested my leadership skills, a decision that was challenging but also enjoyable. This period also shows the formation of new friendships, but it was also a time when some friendships, sadly, faded into memories. Attending academic obligations became a daily routine, though I never forgot to find moments of joy with my friends. Additionally, it was during my senior high school years that a significant realization occurred: to be an accountant is what I really wanted to be. This realization led me to make an important decision– to pursue the BSA program in college. This decision marked a turning point in my journey, setting me on a path that felt genuinely aligned with my aspirations and interests.
The moment had finally arrived, entering college was like stepping into a new world. As I navigated the early days of college life, I couldn't help but reflect on the journey that had brought me here. The dreams of becoming an accountant had led me to choose the BSA program at a university in the city. However, as the reality of college settled in, self-doubt crept in. Questions swirled in my mind: ‘Am I really capable of excelling in this program? Can I truly survive the challenges of leaving my comfort zone, far away from my family?’. These doubts were natural since college was not just a change of location; it was a change in the very essence of daily life. Moving from the province to the city, living in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people, facing more responsibilities and academic demands, and the distance from family added an extra layer of complexity.
As I stand on the beginning of my college journey, I am aware that the story of my life is far from complete. It is an ongoing narrative of experiences, dreams, and realizations. With the dream of becoming a successful accountant guiding my path, someday my story will be told to the whole world and I am going to make sure that this story of mine will be worth knowing.
