Dear FutureMe,
In two years I hope I’m still hopeful.
In two years I want to have wants that are attainable and some that are not.
In two years I know I’ll have new fears and old friends.
Don’t forget how good it feels to help someone finally see and realize their potential. Look for ways to soften the blows against your failures and where you fall short as both a leader and co-worker. Know that people believe in you, and sometimes that is half the battle we wage.
Smile because you want to, not because you should. Share in the wins of others and encourage their success, no matter its cost to you. Recognize the times you should be silent and those times you should not. Earn the trust of others by being the best version of you, not the version someone pushes upon you. Own the missteps and incorporate them into the dance.
Remember that two years can feel like a week or a decade in the grand scheme of things - fill it with memories that stretch those moments out into entire lifetimes. See you again two years from now.
