A letter from Aug 28, 2023

Dear FutureMe, My linguistic biography My name is Alexandra, I am twenty-one years old and I am Mexican. I am originally from Baja California so my native language is Spanish. Besides Spanish I speak English and I am studying an Asian language which is Japanese. When I was a little girl I remember that my favorite music was pop so I tried to sing the songs in English, also because I have family that speaks English so I wanted to communicate with my cousins in their second language, from there my interest in English was born. When I was in my last year of elementary school my mom decided to enroll me in private English classes, I remember that I really liked the classes and the teacher I had at that time was very good and within weeks I was reading books in English. From there it helped me a lot because in high school I was taking English. In my second year of high school I was closer to the language and it was not only in English class, but now it was all the time because I went to live in the United States for a year, in that year, I developed a lot my listening and reading because I was enrolled in a program where I had to practice it, also at that time I read many books in the library, at first I was embarrassed to speak because I was surrounded by native speakers but over time I was developing. In high school most of the time I didn’t take exams in English because I had more knowledge and less embarrassment in practicing it, more than anything I had the attitude . I am currently studying a degree in languages for the reason that I love English and cultures. I decided to study an Asian language because it is a challenge for me and because I like their culture. At the moment I am not a master in the Japanese language but I hope that in a few years I will be and also have the opportunity to travel to the country.
