Dear Future Me,
I would definitely invest in a side hustle, or a second job so I wouldn't worry about I would definitely invest into a side hustle, or a second job so I wouldn't worry about some small/large inconvenience making me practically in debt.
Don't go out to eat more than once every week. If you can go less than once a week, maybe once every other week.
No pets until you are certain you do or don't want children or are more financially stable enough to handle a small inconvenience that could happen when you have pets.
If you ever have children, be sure you have a backup person, someone to go to if say your spouse leaves, or an inconvenience pops up and you can't afford you and the baby. But of course, keep most of your money in a savings account so you don't need to lean on anyone for help.
I know you, so stop looking at that “really pretty” dress on Amazon, we don't need it, we have enough clothes. We stopped growing in 8th grade, our clothes still fit us perfectly fine, and we will wear them until they are practically rags.
Use your bike more! Skateboard to places, grab those roller blades in the back of your closet, I know we’ll have a car but if you want to save more money, that 30+ bucks on gas we're spending every month isn't going to help.
“What if we have a child?” They can ride a bike with us. Too small? There are baby carriers that strap to bikes, just slightly too big? Bike stroller.
I know us, I know we suck at saving money, the most we’ve been able to save was for an iPad we wanted for school, well we sold it for less than its worth so we couldn't get a computer for school.
I know you'll already be in college but
don't forget those notes we took from our stepdad about all the things we should take advantage of for college!
