A letter from Jun 05, 2023

Dear FutureMe, Ugh. It’s been a long time since we argued and this one was short but Christ! He was using that TENS device on his elbow, remember. He asks if I want to try it. He puts it on my arm and ****************** it hurt!! I knocked it off and yelled “ OW! **** that hurt!” Normal response, right? His abnormal response? “ Don’t yell at me!” He didn’t seem to have any concern that this thing hurt me. He didn’t apologize, he didn’t take my arm and rub it and ask if I’m OK. He was mad because I yelled out in pain. This is typical for him but even after I told him that it wasn’t his fault, he kept repeating that it was his fault or that I’m blaming him. Then he goes off the deep end, as usual, screaming ( but I’m not allowed to scream in pain) that he cares about me and all kinds of offensive things, like always. I’m in the middle of a sentence when he walks off saying he’s going to bed. How. Rude. This is the behavior that really irks me. I always start thinking that I don’t have to put up with this and I start thinking about leaving but… is anyone perfect? He’s a good man except for this problem. Ugh. So - future me- what happened? Stay calm. This is his problem, not yours. Your Younger self.
