Dear FutureMe,
I wrote this seated at the table we sat at for 6 years in Dhulikhel while studying for medical school. Our journey wasn't easy. We went through cycles of feeling great, surrounded by friends and being happy and confident to feeling empty, lonely and not enough. We had some special people help us along our way. Our circle was small but it was powerful enough for us to be able to get a medical degree. If you aren't in contact with them at the moment, this is your sign to pick up the phone and give them a call. All of us are probably scattered all over the world right now. But once upon a time we lived and became adults together in a city far away from home. We saved each other in our darkest times and that alone is reason enough to always be friends.
As days in Dhulikhel come to an end, we're left wondering of the path we're going to take for our future.
Will we end up practicing abroad or in Nepal?
Will we get married anytime soon to the guy we've loved for the past 3 years?
Will we get to help people through medicine? (Are we giving 15% of our money, time and energy to people that need but cannot afford healthcare?)
PastMe supposes you know these answers. No matter what happened these past years, keep your head high. Give yourself a hug. Look around you. Wherever you are, I know you're doing good things. I believe you've made good choices, and some bad ones. Don't regret any of them. For you've become someone we aspired to be as a child.
I love you always. Take care. For your birthday, splurge a little. Enjoy reaching a new milestone in life. Go out. Buy a plant or a herb, draw a mandala or do yoga to soothe your creative mind and body. Read a joke. Or re-read this letter. Print it out and stick it up. Remember the little things that have helped you be here and cherish every single moment.
With only love
Anu
