Dear Future Self,
Hi, I really hope you're not some sort of cyborg robot guy because that would be pretty cool but really weird y’know. I really hope that you continued swimming, theater, and Waterpolo all through high school but I know you might have gotten a few new hobbies or dropped others. I also hope your time’s scientists have gotten renewable energy down because I don’t want you or me to have to do it for them, too much work. But if they have, your future must be great, I know you probably can’t time travel yet but if it does work/exist please travel to this time: Thursday, Jan 5, 2023 at 10:30 AM at STMS in Mrs. AB’s classroom precisely. Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that we will always find a way, even when the world seems stressful, disorganized, or inefficient we can fix it, but you can’t do it alone, you have so many friends and family members who are willing to help you with anything, just ask.
Just as some nostalgia from my time, the president is currently Joe Biden. He's okay I guess I mean he’s better than… you know what I’m not going to get into it this isn’t a political letter. Anywho, they just tore down Enfield Kindergarten school and made new fields on them. They’re not open yet but they look really nice. I hope you never forget that feeling all Christmas season, that feeling of joy and bliss. The feeling of watching the snow float down from the heavens and blanket the ground, covering all of its imperfections. Never forget the feeling of getting your personal record or stepping out onto a stage with all eyes on you. Never forget.
Again about our hobbies though, never stop pursuing what you love because each one is a key part of you and fills your life. Swimming teaches you the power of your mind. You may think you can’t hold your breath that long but you can, you may think your arms won't let you swim another lap but they will, you may think you need more strokes before the flip-turn, but you don’t. Water polo helps you with controlling external stimuli. You need to position yourself right to get the ball and kick just hard enough to keep yourself from drowning, all while being just ahead of the other players. Even when focusing on all that, cherry pickers will still screw up your position and force you to the other side of the pool. Finally, theater teaches you not to procrastinate and the role of public speaking in your life. If you procrastinate and leave your line memorization for another time you may be unprepared for the show, and once you step out on that stage you can never leave. Every moment, every thought will be a step towards that high of acting in front of hundreds of people.
I want you to remember all of the people who have helped you throughout your life. Although I don’t know any of your new friends that you have made throughout high school I do know the ones that got you to it. I hope you are still a part of the friend group with Ian, Johnny, Jonah, Michael, Bennett, Jack, and Nate because I think it has the perfect balance of all of the friend group needs. We got the one who always hosts events, the athletic one who knows all of the other athletic kids and is somehow still a little nerdy, the cool one who shows up every once and a while, the one who has the most random sense of humor and is always ******* to do something new, the one who somehow knows everyone and is the nicest one of the group, the one who you would expect to be a 40-year-old country dad stuck in a kids body, and the one who is dumb but always brings sentimental value. Also, don’t forget the time and care Mom and Dad give to us all throughout our lives, making us their top priority.
Finally, I want to make some requests for my future since you're already living it. First of all, please continue researching renewable energy, because when everyone's energy gets cut off you'll have a monopoly. Second, although I love theater I don’t know if that should be your bill payer, maybe keep it as a hobby. Thirdly, I know you’ll handle swimming and Waterpolo so I don’t really have any demands on that front. Fourth, in college, if I were to choose any major, it would be some sort of engineering, doesn’t matter which, just keep that creative spirit. Lastly, this is my final demand, on the ride back from graduation play this: We’re Finally Landing By HOME. While listening reflects on your education and your life in the past years, and all of the new friends and relationships you’ve had. I believe in you. Okay, well, I’ll see you in like three years. Good Luck.
From,
The better, less cool, Jude Slowik
