A letter from Nov 14, 2022

Time Travelled — over 3 years

Peaceful right?

Dear FutureMe, Hi 17/18 year old Abbie! This is a letter from 14 year old you, aka you when you were still a freshie in high school. I'd send this to...I dunno, 21 year old you, but this email account will be deleted once we graduate. You'll be getting this letter when you're a senior and when you're about to graduate. That's super weird to think about. It's November 2022 right now. You're graduating in May 2026. How fast will those four years fly by? Anyway, as a freshmen right now, I have a couple questions I'd like to ask you. Scratch that, a lot of questions. But first, I'd like to preface this with some statistics at the moment. Exact age: 14 years, 4 months, and 26 days Time of writing: Started at 7:42 pm, Nov 14, ended at, 11:03 am Nov 15, because I take too long to write these things Favorite food: Everything in dim sum Favorite song (according to Spotify): Young God by Halsey Favorite subject: Photography, Choir, PE (we never do anything in PE lol) Least favorite subject: Everything else Favorite crap you wasted your time on: Cookie Run Kingdom, Lego Monkie Kid, Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, your Zodiac OCs, Hamilton The Musical, SIX The Musical, Ride The Cyclone, Dream SMP (yeah, that thing from 7th grade, we're not into that anymore, but is it still around?) #1: Do you think this email is cringe? I'm serious. Be honest, it's okay. You probably will think this is cringe. I look back at some of the stuff I wrote in 6th/7th grade and shudder inside. If you do, that's fine, you're only human. If you don't, well, that's great! #2: How's your love life going? Speaking as a freshmen, our love life is currently nonexistent. I mean, we crushed on Sri, we crushed on Harini, and now both of them are a couple? What?? Being bi gets you into the weirdest love triangles or whatever that was. Speaking of: Are you still bi? Was being bi just a phase like Dad said? Are you straight now, or are you an actual lesbian, or are you something else? Or are you just...still bi? #3: Do you have a job? Dad said he was going to make us apply to McDonalds to give us a taste of actual work. Are you working at Mom and Dad's dental office or are you working somewhere else? If you are, are you working as the insurance guy or are you actually doing stuff? #4: Do you have any tests/exams coming up? You probably do, cause you're getting this in April. If so, make sure to not stress too much, eat some food, drink some water, get some sleep, and don't worry. You're gonna do great. #5: Gifted kid burnout...you still got it? You know where you're headed? Or is your motivation at a low? College is coming soon, I hope you got into the college you wanted. High school's rough, but college will be worse. Agh, sorry, that's probably not the advice you wanted. :( #6: Do we ever grow a spine? Like, did we ever learn how to actually express when people are making us uncomfortable? Cause right now, all we really do is just...nod and say yes to everything. Compliance doesn't equal agreement. Easier said than done, I know. #7: Do we ever do rebellious teenager stuff? You know, break glasses, punch walls, wreck cars, blah blah blah? I...really don't hope we didn't do any of that, but I'm just curious. Don't endanger yourself or others please. #8: Who are our friends now? I'm gonna list our current friends, see if you remember/are still friends with any of them. Serena, V, Leandra, Sri, Harini, Logan, Supriya, Archith, Riya, Brayden (Bean), Varsha, ********, Ethan, Phoenix, Mia...wow we have a lot of friends, actually. And a lot of them are Indian. I hope you've made some new friends, but make sure they're not toxic (cough, Sami and Spencer, cough). And also make sure you're still friends with at least Serena (besties since 4th grade, don't screw this up), and V and Leandra (PANCAKE TRIOO) #9: Did you pick up any new hobbies? Right now, our hobbies are...scrolling pinterest, writing ao3 fanfiction, and watching whatever crap on YouTube comes our way. Yeah, we need to diversify. I guess you could count photography and choir as hobbies, but I dunno. #10: How's your mental health? It's taken a bit of a dip recently (we had four tests in GT, Spanish, AP Human, and Geometry, ALL IN THE SAME WEEK!), but I hope it's gotten better over the past 4 years. #11: How's Anna? She's...what, a sophomore now? That's really weird to think about. Has she developed better jokes? Is she still taller than you, even though she's literally younger than you? Has her temper gotten better or worse? Is she still an annoying little *****? And does she still wear those stupid claw clips? #12: ¿Puedes hablar español? I hope you still can, because if not, those three years of Spanish (and suffering) will have been for nothing. #13: Where do you live? (If this seems like a lame question, it is. I ran out of things to ask you and googled questions.) #14: Has your writing improved? You used writing as a coping mechanism a lot throughout high school (so much so that Dad told you to stop because it was interfering with school), so have you kept at it? Have you gotten any better? If you're still writing, look back at the writing I did during this period. Remember that one story, Waiting On A Stage (Wreathed in Shadow)? Yeah, read that. I hope we finished it. #15: Favorite song? As previously mentioned, my most listened songs to right now are Young God by Halsey and also Cut My Fingers Off by Ethan Bortnick. Blame Sri for getting you obsessed with the second one. Now, some questions from my current friends, because I ran out of questions to ask you myself: From Archith: "Do you have a Tumblr yet?" I mean...you're 17...and you have that spare email account lying around...so...yeah From V: "Are you still slaying?" Their words, not mine. From Leandra: "Has your mental health gotten better?" From Serena: "What's your favorite book? Also, I hope that you have better mental health. Abbie has informed me that her spanish class's mental health is much worse than her own. So I, uh, hope you feel better." From Ethan: "Are you still alive?" Really encouraging, dude. From Ryan(Spanish classmate): "Do you watch anime now?" From ********: "How are you?" From Morgan(Spanish classmate): "How did you feel about the Percy Jackson series?" Go watch the Percy Jackson series if you haven't already. I hope it's better than the movies. From Harini: "How're you faring? Have you found anyone yet?" From Phoenix: "Do you still have the same friends as you did when you were a freshmen?" I hope you live to see this letter. I really do. Look away from the knife, look away from the ropes. You're gonna make it. I know it. -abbie :DD
