A letter from Nov 02, 2022

Dear FutureMe, Hello! I'm currently 14 years old, in grade 9, and school just started 2 days ago. I know we also have this thing in grade 8 where we write to our grade 12 self and it’s kept somewhere, but whatever. I’m doing another one and probably a longer one. I currently do not have any close friends or any friends that aren't just inside the classroom friends, and so was the case last year. Do you have any now? Do you have a best friend, if you do, what's their name? When did you meet them? How did you meet them? I'm not into K-pop as much as I used to be, but I still watch SEVENTEEN sometimes. Has that changed, and has your ult group changed? I'm going to predict that it does, since it did the last two times I did this. I'm currently learning Hanzi, because I don't know how to read or write in Chinese. I can read most words in basic sentences. I still have a lot more words that I don't know how to read, but I'm now struggling with writing in Hanzi more. Although, I doubt you are, are you in the same Chinese class? Do you go to a different place to learn, do you self-study, or have you just given up on learning Hanzi overall? If you are still learning, how well is it right now, or are you already at the point where your Hanzi is good enough that you don't need to learn Hanzi anymore? Hopefully I’m able to go to China next year. I think the last time I’ve been back was in grade 4 which now that I just realized that I legit haven’t gone back since grade 4 is absolutely crazy, because WHAT? (could technically be grade 5 because I would be grade 5 after summer break) It couldn’t have been that long. If I was to go back in time, I would’ve gone back to China in grade 5 too, if only I knew that COVID was about to hit us. I miss seeing my grandparents, and all my relatives. I see these Chinese childhood TikTok clips AND IT'S GIVING ME SO MUCH NOSTALGIA AND SADNESS BC I MISS ALL OF IT. Are you exercising at all? I mean I'm not even taking my own advice, but you should, because I'm literally getting out of breath just from light jogging in P.E. Hopefully that has changed. Have you grown taller, because I'm currently 4 '11, and you better not be that short by the time we’re 18. What are your interests lately? Mostly talking about interests that don't include staring at your phone or computer all day, if you have interests like that, which I don't right now. Do you have a partner? My prediction is that you don't, because all my crushes last 1-2 weeks, maybe a month, but rarely. I mean if you do actually have one, like the friends question how did you guys meet? Are they from our school or not? I’d be surprised if it was a guy from our school if we are in a relationship though. I can’t imagine a guy from our grade dating anybody. None of my male classmates have gotten any ******* and there are like a few girls right now who date… except I never see them date anyone our grade, but grades above them. Genuinely though, I'm questioning if I'm asexual or aromantic, because *** is just hell no, and romance, I like the idea of romance, I love romance things, but I'm not sure if it's something I want to do like actually. I can't tell if my crushes are from romantic attraction or platonic attraction. I do not want to be aromantic. I don't care about other people being aromantic, but I WANT to experience it, so. I mean, I’m 14 so I don’t know. What’s going on in the world right now? Is TikTok still like the gen z app or is TikTok dead and now another social media app it’s trending, or now it’s called something else like when musically merged with Chinese TikTok (douyin) to make TikTok. What are the trends or jokes right now? Is gen alpha about to take over the social media world now. Probably not, I mean everyone’s still going to be gen z in high school by the time I’m grade 12, although everyone has a different answer as to which birth year is the last of gen z. Any major world issues happening or has happened before I sent this letter? Any good news for this world? How are your grades right now? I think my grades are doing good. I really need to work on my procrastination, but thank god my classes have been super chill. My academic classes are next semester, so I’m not very excited about that. This is sent to senior year, so I'm assuming that you've already gotten letters from universities? I have a specific major that I want to pursue in mind, but that isn’t really set in stone, so what major did you choose? Where did you apply to? Did you get into your top picks? Or maybe you chose to not go to university. Whatever you chose to do, I hope you’re happy with your decision. I literally cannot imagine being in grade 12 right now, anyways, that’s it.
