Dear FutureMe,
Life can get overwhelming and sometimes we lose sight of what is important. So, I thought I would send you some important advice worth remembering.
Advice about friendship: Don’t give up your personality and comfort to be friends with anybody. Make sure to set boundaries and watch who you give information to. Don’t let your pride get in the way of saving meaningful relationships. Make sure to check up on your friends because you never know what anyone is going through. Connections are so so important so keep your friendships alive and be polite to everyone. Learn to forgive but don’t forget.
Advice about love: Don’t rush or force it. Whatever God wants for you will definitely come to you. Heartbreak is real and it’s normal. Allow your relationship to be filled with understanding and communication. Don’t let bitter people get in the way of your relationship. Keep you relationship lighthearted and fun, but there should also be serious, deep moments.
Advice about religion: Please don’t forget to keep your relationship with God alive and to prioritise it. Read your Bible, devote your life to him, involve him in your relationships with people. Never give up on your relationship with God no matter how much life seems to not look exactly like what you want it to look like.
Advice about health: Pleaseeee stay fit. Eat good food, exercise by taking walks or working out, breathe fresh air, spend time in nature, meditate, journal, let out your frustrations and know that it’s okay and normal to rant and vent, stay nourished and hydrated. Cry, laugh, scream. You’re a human being. (or are you?) Spend quality time with your loved ones and do throngs that make you happy. Travel, learn new things, cook, sing, dance, play musical instruments, etc.
Advice about work-life balance: Make sure that you know what your priorities are and let go of the things that aren’t important in your life. Learn to rest and put things to the side when you feel that they are negatively taking over your life.
Advice about family: Always check up on family. You don’t know what tomorrow brings. Have group video calls, keep the group chat alive, travel to see each other when possible, celebrate them when necessary, etc.
Advice about happiness: Happiness isn’t permanent. Stop getting frustrated when you aren’t happy. I know you, and I know that you sometimes have week or month long episodes. It’s okay. They always end. However, if your happiness is in your hands, make sure to do something about it when you find that you aren’t happy. If stress is getting in the way of your happiness, take some time off.
Advice about resilience: Practice discipline. Practice hard work. Take things seriously. Avoid procrastination. When it’s too much, you’ll know what to do. But please don’t be lazy.
