Dear Future Grace,
Who am I? I am you. Just younger, cooler, at the bottom of the high school food chain. I like that I’m a neutral character in my high school experience. I’m not the girl who’s too nice for her own good, but I’m not a jerk either. If I say something that’s mean it's not surprising and that’s good because I do not want to get walked on. I don’t like the freedom that I have because I need a structure, basketball season will give me that. So it’s a temporary problem. What bothers me is the social hierarchy of high school. The seniors need to be taken down a bit, the real world will do that. Ironically I think some of the freshmen need that too. I enjoy music, do we still like Chase Atlantic? I’m proud of Addison and Noah. They both are doing well in school and sports. By the time you're reading this, Addison will be the same age as us. Crazy. My favorites are, Mr. Marsh’s Human Geography AP class, Taylor, basketball, turning two from second base, and football tech. My goal is to put you in a good position to succeed and figure out what we want to do. Maybe you know, I don’t.
Our house should be at the same place. Mom's been wanting a new couch. I hope you have it. Is our living room still that terrible color of teal? Our room has gray walls, a full size bed, the flag above it, and our WW2 map from Uncle Ralph. The mirror blocks our modern map. I just took the door off of our closet too. WCHS has old parts and new parts and you can tell what is new and what is from the 70s. I haven’t explored enough to have a fully formed map in my head yet, I get lost every once in a while. My favorite places are Taylor’s house, our room, our living room with its bright teal walls, and Grandma Jane’s house. One of the best things I own is the Che Guevara sticker on the back of my phone. I love when I meet someone who gets it. As far as current events, the Queen died not too long ago and I’ve been following the Texas governor race. The one in Illinois is boring, it’s a Trump-Clinton situation. My favorite book is None Shall Sleep by Ellie Marney, but Looking for Alaska by John Green will always be special. (take that one to college) My favorite movie is Clue (1985) it’s the one with Tim Curry. I like Chase Atlantic and some RnB. The TV shows I watch are Rupaul’s Drag Race, Hell’s Kitchen, and Kitchen Nightmares. On YouTube, I watch Oversimplified and Dead Meat. I usually wear athletic clothes, but I wore jeans the other day.
Well, we’ve always had packed schedules haven’t we? I’ll take you through a normal week of our freshman year. On Monday, we just have football after school. Nothing crazy, it’s till 6. Tuesdays, we have basketball open gyms. Which can last until 4:15 or 4:30, then we have football till 6. We get home and do our homework too. Wednesdays are slow, just football but usually less homework than Monday. Thursdays are basketball open gyms, football if we have to fix anything, then homework. Friday is game day for varsity football. I’ve been getting put on tablet duty lately. We usually don’t get home until 10 or 11 on Fridays. Our schedule is about to get crazy because when football ends basketball starts and so does softball.
The people we interact with will change. I know that. As of right now, I don’t really want it to. Taylor is our best friend, we spend everyday with her. We walk with Kendall from 4th to 5th to 6th every day. We talk to Campbell in our PE and Spanish. Ady is in our Math and Spanish. We don’t have any classes with Taylor but I think our friendship is stronger for it. Our family is the same as ever. They’re pretty cool. We also talk to Alese everyday.
Predictions, predictions, predictions. I predict that we will still have good grades. We will still be playing basketball and softball. I also think you’ll know what we want to do. Addison will be a shining star. Noah will be outlandish. Dad will still cook on his Blackstone. I hope you’ve met Alese in person by now. Maybe even Zanie. I wish you the best of luck. Maybe you have scholarship offers or something. Be safe, loser.

Past Grace
