Hello ello ello,
I don't know whether you picked Minerva out of naivety, courage, the spirit of the child that has to have every new thing, or all three of these, but you did it.
You did it ya son of a *****.
Firstly, I want you to remember that you didn't start this journey at a simple time in your life.
- Mummy's currently in the ICU, still unconscious, still looking like a shadow of herself.
- You just started becoming friends with your siblings. With Morwenna, you're even closer than before. With Benji, you tell jokes and play golf. With Kalela, you can be bored together, gossip and run errands. It's hard to leave them.
- And oh boy don't get me started on how far behind you are on the summer prep. Isn't python that thing from the Amazon jungle? I don't know. Lemme ask one of the Brazilians.
Sorry, I've digressed.
It's tough right now. But I've got now doubt that you'll get through this unscathed. Be grateful, be stoic, and remember that life ain't serious at the end of the day.
Now, what do I hope you've achieved by now? How do I hope that you are?
I hope you never let your ego get the best of you. Especially during euphoric highs and "you're so funny, Jono"'s
I hope you're still keeping up a consistent fitness regimen. Remember, exercise is physical hygeine.
I hope you've got friends that you can go deeep with (like you do with Landz). But also friends that you can be comfortably shallow with. Cheetos on the bed while you scroll through Instagram typa shallow.
Now onto the more meaty, serious stuff:
I hope you're **** intelligent. Not in a superficial "look at my GPA and fancy degree" way but in a way that helps me connect with all sorts of people, solve complex professional problems and feel like I'm not sitting in meetings trying to say the right things.
I hope you've got a more clear purpose of what you're doing here. Now listen, I ain't saying you've got to collaborate with a robotics lab to design a piece of code that ends period poverty, but have something that fulfills you, keeps you grounded and gives you a greater reason to go to work everyday that earning money.
I hope you live with as close to zero as possible! I know you love fashion and some other things, but that doesn't mean you need to keep accumulating stuff. In fact, do the opposite, be extreme about it. Aggressively cut down to zero possessions.
I hope you're honest. None of this crap you spent your childhood doing. Lying about where you've come from, all of the places you've seen and foods you've tasted.
Jonathan, I know I've said a lot of crap in this letter. I never have been able to shut my mouth. But most of all...
If you take anything from this letter...
Let it be this: I hope you're happy. Life isn't that serious. We'll all go back to dust. The grim reaper will arrive. They'll forget about you as fast as they learned to love you. BE HAPPY!!!
