A letter from Jul 24, 2022

Time Travelling — almost 4 years

Peaceful right?

Dear Erelah, I'm writing this letter from the past (Woah!) and I'm writing this letter because I am confident that you and I will still be friends at this point in life, where I've graduated from UCSD and where you're doing great things in life that make you happy. College doesn't seem like it's for you (sorry if you've already graduated or something) but right now, it seems like a lot of unnecessary stress. You're unsure of what you want or what you like. I want you to pursue something that you feel confident in and that you see yourself doing in the future. That aside, I'm sending this to myself first because part of me actually feels like we won't be friends at this time. And also because I don't know your email and asking for it would spoil the surprise of getting this in the future. You and I would probably forget about it after a week anyway but I'd still like it to be unexpected. It's more of the first reason, though. I don't know if I've ever told you directly or if I will tell you directly in the future (or if you pretty much already know because of all the countless times I've talked to you about it without directly telling you), but I struggle with making friends. During freshman year, I lost a lot of friends and sophomore year I think is when I grew a little more and made more friends. But then COVID hit and they all stopped talking to me. I constantly tried keeping in contact with them but I guess they didn't want to because they wouldn't respond. They eventually did but only when school started because they wanted help with their homework. I really just wanted to just stop talking to them completely because of how hard it was when they all ghosted me. But I continued anyway in the hopes we'd still be friends when we went back to in-person. Never spoke with them again so I guess that was stupid. Moving on, I want to be able to keep good friends around. You've always been my reason to keep going. You know what to say and how to help. We share brain cells pretty much cause we're both a little dumb sometimes. We're so alike even though we look like complete opposites at first glance. You're a white devoted Christian with a great relationship with your family, I'm a Mexican Athiest who struggles to get through the day without getting in one fight with anyone in my family. Regardless, we've been friends for nearly 4 years, so how hard can 4 more be? I love you, Erelah. Even if we're not friends anymore because we got out of touch or we got into a fight, I'll still love you. This letter is proof. Maybe I could use it to win you back. I hope we stay friends until we're old but still hot and fun. And hopefully, my being a veterinarian got me rich and we're living our last days in some vacation spot, enjoying life after everything we've overcome, together. Thank you for being my best friend in the whole world and through it all. Always with love, Kim (P.S. Grammarly keeps trying to correct your name to some other name because I guess it doesn't like Erelah :/)
