Dear Rylee,
Hello from the past! I’m writing this letter on Monday, May 16, 2022, at ELA but once you receive this, you will be about to graduate. I have a few questions for you but I feel it's only fair I answer some of yours first.
I’m currently 14 years old and in my last week of 8th grade. Some of my favorite things are hanging out with Emmie, Playing volleyball, reading, watching heartstopper, baking, Minecraft, and the color purple. Soup is still alive and thriving so that's good. I honestly think that she's going to make it another year. Some of my favorite artists right now are Mitski, Wilbur, The televisions, and eyedress.
I’d honestly like to know what we accomplished in the last four years.
Did we ever join the high school volleyball/softball team? If we did congrats on making the team! What position did we get? Right now I'm really hoping to become a libero/third base.
Did we ever go to Atlanta GA like we said we would? If we did, did we go and see all the TWD filming spots? We better have gotten some good pictures.
Now that we're technically “adults” what college did we get into? Did we apply to the University of Cambridge so we can meet all those cute British guys? Did we even decide to apply to a UK university at all?
Do we still enjoy reading and did we ever get around to finishing the harry potter series? I can’t bring myself to get past the fourth book. My current favorite character is Neville and Fred but I feel like later on we're gonna become harry stans.
How are we doing relationship-wise? Did we finally manage to get over our fear of commitment or are we still a raging hopeless romantic?
I want you to remember that no matter where you are in the world right now and no matter who you’ve become, Dad will always be proud of you. You've done amazing things so far and I know that we’ve had a difficult life so far, but now it's your chance to make something of yourself. Become the best person you can be and go out and explore the world, nows is your chance, and you better not waste it sulking about your petty pre-adult drama. I believe in you and so does everyone else. No matter what you do just know that you did an amazing job doing it. I’m proud of you. I’d also like to leave you with a piece of advice. Don’t worry so much about making other people happy and make yourself happy for once.
PS. I love Kit Conner
