A letter from Nov 5th, 2021

Time Travelled — almost 5 years

Peaceful right?

Dear FutureMe, Dear Future Me, First, let me remind you of a term that we studied and learn in the SOSE 3306 class a few years ago during the fall of 2021. This term is Social Justice: a philosophy, an approach, and actions that embody treating all people with fairness, respect, dignity and generosity in which it gives the individual the opportunity to achieve to his or her potential and full participation in a democratic society. Now let me ask you this, as a teacher and human being have you practiced Social Justice? Times were hard back then, remember Covid-19? How it paralyzed the whole world. We saw a lot of people losing their jobs, having to stay home and do everything online, what did we not see back then? We also dived into deep waters of social justice and how being able to implement it as a teacher was a must for the years to come. I know that back then you thought that social justice was complicated to understand. You had your own questions on how you were going to implement everything learned in your classroom when you were expected to meet deadlines in your district as a teacher. You are probably smiling right now. But I know that your smile is because you did it one step at a time. Nothing is easy, we make mistakes but the greatest always make it right in the end. Just let me remember you something just in case you have forgotten. On November of 2021, our favorite month of the year, you made the following pledge: “I Pledge to always teach with social justice. That for each human being that crosses my way including on my daily routine, I will implement as much as I can of social justice. Until I reach mastering to provide them the opportunity to reach their fullest potential regardless of their background in every single aspect possible. It is my duty to do my best the same way Ms. Chavez did with me that November of 2000. Doing the impossible and opening the doors of opportunity for me, this is my pledge.” Keep working hard and doing your best, just remember November 2000. Have a great day! Best regards, yourself.
