A letter from Aug 25th, 2021

Dear FutureMe, hi. woah, this was so long ago, right? there are so many things i want to ask you, it’s ridiculous. by the way, this is 12 year old you. so yes, you did the math correctly. stop using your fingers to count. i’m sure that habit hasn’t gone away. how have you been. right now, you’re 18 years old. well, turning 18 in a month if you read this the day it’s sent. who knows if you even use this email anymore. assuming you decided to go to college, did you get into MIT? no. maybe not. harvard? maybe not that either. let’s try this. how’s school? hopefully, you got your grades up (praying you didn’t flunk), and are working towards getting into a decent college. i hope you’re studying and persevering (i don’t think i spelled that right. i had to check google 4 times) whatever hobby you chose to turn into something more. hm, guess time will tell. what about your friends? you still close with bowie and raj? i would really hope so because they’re your best friends at the moment and life is boring without them. now here comes the billion dollar question. are you still friends with justice and tay? it would be very upsetting if you weren’t. you, justice, and tay had always talked about being childhood best friends and staying together forever. because you’re “the squad”, ya know. inseparable. so i really hope that stuck with you and y’all stayed close (also assuming that mom and their parents stood close as well). i would also hope you made some new friends too. and no fake ones. by then, mom must be really overbearing with letting you go out, but maybe she’s loosened up. dude, i sure hope so. sooo are you dating anyone? i would hope you found someone who makes you happy by now. i mean, come on. you’re 17 (🕺🏼cigarette daydreams. you were only 17🕺🏼). not that you NEED to have a special someone, focus on school you nerd. BUT- it’d be nice to know if you found someone that makes you happy. even if it’s not *you know who*. i know you probably don’t want to talk about this just yet, but have you figured it out? have you come out as trans and/or bi yet? who knows, maybe you have and your mom actually properly accepts you this time. or maybe you’re still closeted, which is fine too. take your time, don’t rush it. you have a tendency to stress about rushing it even now. so just breathe. it’s okay. another billion dollar question to wrap up, is there flying cars. nah, that’s basic. can iphones fly and do they have indestructible screens? your screen on your iphone 8+ (sure this phone’s obsolete now) is currently cracked by the keyboard. technology must be awesome in 2026. well, thank you for taking care of yourself and getting this far. you’re not in a grrat mental spot right now, and i’m sure you’ll remember why when you read the date this was sent. so i’m glad that you’re doing better. thank you for staying strong and being awesome. i love you. — 12 year old you. august 25, 2021
