Time Travelled — almost 5 years

Peaceful right?

Dear FutureJj, Today is lockdown 6.5 in Victoria, more of like the 7th in regionals as we’re afforded more freedoms than metros that’s been under the rule for than 200 days in the past year. I decided to write you because debating or even commenting in social media is nonsensical and in general, keyboard warriors are mean. So, instead, I thought that maybe I can do some sort of a fearless forecast regarding Covid-19, and you can easily see whether I’m bang on or should I be glad I never did financial maths and became a quant? I would say that Covid-19 is still ravaging the world; the past 5 years saw peaks and throughs and somehow vaccinations did contain the numbers only for new variants to emerge shortly and made them seemed useless. In fact, there is very little correlation in the number of vaccines administered to the number of cases in most countries. There are times of the year when they just skyrocketed, whilst they tamed down in others. People have become quite fatigued with restrictions including masking, and more joined organised protests and civil disobedience, hence they were easily blamed for the escalating numbers due to flouting restrictions. However, most governments in the world seemed rather clueless how to best deal with the situation. Some forward thinking countries have opened their borders early, only to revert back to closures when the numbers exponentiates. The “pi” variant had been the driving force towards the trend of exponential increase of cases from very low and stable numbers. Apparrently, “pi” makes Covid-19 tests unreliable, as it’s possible not to return a positive result for a long time, sometimes even after the accepted quarantine period of 14-21 days. And then there is the “upsilon” variant that seems to evade most vaccines. It wasn’t any deadlier than the flu, but fully vaccinated people catch them and spread them as much as unvaccinated ones. As time went by, more and more countries were requiring booster shots every couple of months, but there is growing evidence that the vector-viral and protein subunit vaccines’ booster shots have failed to be effective after the 4th one, that is 2 initial shots, then 2 boosters. Meta-data showed less than 25% protection after the 4th dose for one vector-viral vaccine, and 40% protection for one protein subunit vaccine. The biggest hysteria was on variant “omega” and huge profits were made by the doomsday industry. Whilst “pi” and upsilon” were super-spreader variants, omega emerged from another part of the world and was a completely unexpected development. Variant viruses tend to be less lethal, but “omega” affects and ***** mostly younger and healthier people as their immune systems go into hyperdrive. There was also some unproven claim that mrna vaccines actually caused people’s immune system to have worse reaction to this variant hence leading to poorer outcomes. There was insufficient scientific evidence to support the claim but alarming due to growing number of anecdotal evidence. After a year of havoc, omega was not really much of a problem anymore and the strain is no longer the dominant one in the world, and “pi” is re-emerging, like we’re in circular pattern (ironically). Mrna vaccines had another stir of controversy surrounding it recently as they are no linked to higher prevance of a specific cancer that is hormone-based. Studies so far show inconclusive results. There was recent clamor to reconsider traditional inactivated vaccine due to their higher perceived level of safety and seemingly better outcomes for the omega variant especially for the below-40 group. People are tired of lockdowns and the power and control, and data on suicides have been tampered with, some speculated that suicides were marked as covid deaths. The wealth inequality has reached catastrophic levels even for countries with significantly lower gini coefficient before pre covid. The saddest thing is no one seems to care or knows what to do with the issue. You see that the Marxist page on Facebook has less than 350k followers, cannot even compete with that Gen Z influencer in “Koolgi” with a bad haircut. So, how does that sound? Am I Nostradamus enough? Jjk
