A letter from Aug 18th, 2021

Dear FutureMe, I'm not really sure what to write. If you don't remember, you're in math class right now (11th grade) on a Wednesday. I have no idea what you're (I'm?) doing right know, what you worry about, and how you feel about life in general, but I hope you're happy, doing something that's meaningful to you, and not settling for anything less than what is truly you. Right know my biggest worries are what college to go to, what to major in, and what careerpath I would like to take (also the trumpet solo I have in the show and prom freak me out a bit too). What are you worried about? College classes? A thesis maybe? Honestly, I hope you don't worry about too much and just navigate what comes to you with calm confidence knowing that the LORD will stand with you through every bit of it. I hope you're secure in the decisions you've made thus far, have amazing friends that you would do anything for, and have some pretty awesome memories! Alright, just getting down to business, if I was Marty McFly and had a Delorean I would come to you now to mainly answer two questions: what career have you chosen and do you have a boyfriend? Ok, so maybe those aren't the most pressing questions in the world but those are the questions that haunt me during brief moments of silence and mental respite. So, I guess you're answering that in your head right now. I guess I shouldn't feel this with questions since it won't give me the answers. I guess I should say guess less. So, without further ado.... When I envision my future self my dearest and truest hope is that you aren't just living for yourself. I hope you're helping people even when it's hard and uncomfortable. I hope you're living like the Bible compels you too. I hope above all else that you are being yourself because God made you like this for a reason. Finally, I guess I'll tell you what my interests are right now so that you can have a little "blast from the past" (I sincerely hope you don't cringe at these). I'm mainly interested in Spanish, immigration, different countries and cultures (right now it's Mexico), the Great Gatsby (we're reading it in Mrs. Abston's AP English Lit. & Comp. class), and anything by Cassandra Clare in the Shadowhunter Universe. What are you interested in now? Do things that matter and be authentic, please. Live in the moment and not in your head. Make your dreams a reality. Be kind and better to people than they are to you.
