Dear FutureMe,
It's Friday, 11:37 am, the night before New Year's Eve, and you're at work, but unable to really concentrate. You've been thinking all week about S., hoping he'd call while he was away (he didn't, or hasn't yet) and that he'd be back in time to spend New Year's Eve with you (doubtful, but maybe you were pleasantly suprised). I know how much you hope he will. Expectations suck, don't they? They only lead to disappointment.
A year or two from now, when you get this email, he will likely only have been a blip in your life. A short respite in your years of solitude. Maybe you're married, maybe not. I've been wrong about that before. Are your loved ones telling you not to be so picky? Tell them to bite me, you, whoever. Remember that you deserve someone great, someone who will love you unconditionally, (and as I know you I know that you're also thinking/hoping S is the one who will do that) so, if it hasn't happened, don't be too hard on yourself. Don't blame God, or your reserved nature. You are who you are and to be someone else will only get you an unhappy life and a divorce.
You rock and even if you don't find someone who thinks you're amazing and appreciates the finer points of your personality you will always have you, and hopefully a dog.
Love,
PastMe
